Yes, rectangle, sashing, prairie points for sides and ric rac. It was designed for 4th of July colours using Victory Garden Fat 1/8ths. With 1 Fat 1/8th (Victory Garden has 23 fabrics @ 9" X 20) you'll get 6 placemats plus 1 3D pillow and only have to buy backing fabric for placemats, plus the ric rac, of course!) I decided I wanted to save the Victory Garden for quilt (from 3D blocks) and I think I'll need 3, maybe 4 if some of the fabrics don't work for me, so....
Picked up the funky bright fabric at WalMart for $2 a yard and thought what the heck! My first Prairie Points!!

yours look great Sally... I received my pattern today...the pillow is neat looking... maybe the front of the pillow made a few times would be a neat quilt....

I'm with you, Chriss, just got my pattern today, too, placemats aren't my thing--I, too, was hoping for a kind of sampler quilt or just maybe a really neat couple of blocks with some different kinds of borders, sashing, etc--something original for a new quilt. I like the pillow block, maybe it could become a llittle quilt................

I hope the next 6 months are really more exciting than the first six.......

Sally, I like your colors............

thanks for sharing

My plan is to make 12 of the 3D blocks for a quilt and use the Victory Garden fat 1/8s (not into pillows at all)--it's neat. I hadn't planned on making the placemats but had just the right fabric (at the right price!) calling my name so....They were really fun to make. Might do 2 more with the blue in the center and use the previous center fabrics as the sashing. Need to get more rik rak/ric rac though.....(how do you spell that?)
Sally
PS to CArol,
A couple of years ago El did 'Calendar quilts'. I was disappointed because I wanted to make a sampler--I ended up making a 12" block based on the class projects (plus the individual quilts every month, or placemats or wall hangings) for every month (had to design a totally new block for July, Uncle Sam just would not fit!) and made up something for January since the January class was a quilt for Feb. End result was "A Year With El"

(Those of you who know Michelle/Little bit will recognize her 'Night & Day' block (and yes, I've also made 3 quilts with that pattern, two of them during Calendar Quilts! Plus all the left-overs......)
so, you might consider doing something like that!

Oh Sally I like your idea!!!

I've enjoyed learning the techniques. Using a couple of each block would make a nice memory quilt.

Have Fun,

I received my pattern in the mail yesterday. I LOVE placemats and will make these for sure. I don't do pillows much, but may try this one. I even have a bundle of the Victory fabric fat eighths that I can use.

Got my pattern yesterday. I wonder if you couldn't just turn the placemats into a pillowcase or shams if you add a little extra around the edges? Hmmm. Or turn it into a square instead of rectangle to make a block for a sampler?

Sally your placemats are my type of fabric. I love brights. Well Done!!!!!!!

I REALLY REALLY envy those of you that live close enough to go to class with El. That would be my hearts desire.

The June BOM is now available in the Media Theater. So much fun to watch - 'almost' makes you feel like you are there!

Received my pattern today. I'm not a placemat / pillow kind of person so will be attempting a lap quilt out of the pillow pattern. Looks like it could be a lot of fun!!
