What fun. I made 2 stockings,er, socks today just to get the hang of it. Compared to the block swaps, this is so easy and they go together pretty quickly and I get to use up my batting scraps.

I'd love to be a part of this. Anything for our troops! I just need to know where to send them once they're done.

Please count me in. I have a Marine grandson due to deploy to Iraq in August. Also have an Air Force grandson & his wife who deployed last year. I know anything we do for military personnel is appreciated. Several have told me they enjoy anything which reminds them of home. If we do one or 100's the socks will be special.

Okay, I am very new to this site, but I am very interested in making a few of these stockings...I think it is for a wonderful cause. I have read over most of the posts on this, but I just want to make sure that I get my facts right...No religious fabrics, no certain size, but big enough to fill. Who fills the stockings? And what goes in them? Just curious on that part...Is there a minimum for each person? Where and when do I send them?

I hope I'm not too much trouble, I just want to make sure I get everything right with the stockings...

KLAYNE, welcome! I'm so happy you're going to join us in this! You send the stockings to me when you're ready, and I'll message you my address when you're ready to send them. DH and I are going to fill them then send them over. We're trying to do about a 17" x 14" size stocking. There's a free pattern on this site, but you have to enlarge it. The pattern/size I'm using is in the Christmas at Bear's Paw Ranch QIAD book. But, if you don't have the book, it's made the same on the free pattern here. There is no set number you need to make, just however many you want to do, and all will be greatly appreciated! maryq has the percentage she enlarged the stocking to print it out, if you want to do that. It's so good to hear from you and I am so glad to see you're joining us! We all have a lot of fun here and there's lots of fun BOM's and swaps going on all the time.

I have four stockings finished and I am working to finish five more. I will let you know when I am finished and ready to mail them. Elbert County Fair starts their shooting sports this Saturday and my GD is shooting .22 Rifle. Hoping the wind is calm for the competition. Thank You GP For doing such a wonderful thing for our troops I am sure this will brighten their Christmas and maybe let them know how greatful we are to all the soldiers that have given up so much to help keep our county free.

Did some rereading of the post today to discover how to make my stocking pattern bigger. I tried enlarging it but still came out odd so I will try adding several inches to each side. I did see that HSN and QVC are starting to put Christmas stuff on the air so it is time for me to get busy. I only have 25 days to go until school starts again. Oh my,oh my!!

Okay I just finished my first stocking...That may not mean alot to some of you, but that is the first "stocking" that I have ever made. I feel so dumb sometimes...I can figure out pretty much any quilt pattern, but it's just something about turning things inside-out and linings...I hate linings...but all of that worked out well. I think on my others I will make them a little bit larger and the cuff wider. I probably can't make as many as alot of you, but I figure a few will help the cause...How many are you guys making? Or do you have a goal to reach?

Klayne....YOU GO GIRL! This is terrific! Everyone is just going to make what they can and every single stocking sent is appreciated greatly. CindyB is a "one woman stocking factory", I swear, so don't worry about trying to keep up with her! LOL!

Also, dforseth mailed me a cash contribution for this cause, to go towards either postage or stuffers. Greatly appreciated, dforseth, thank you very much!!!! If any of you don't have time to make stockings, but would like to contribute in other ways, I'll open an account for the funds.
