Re: LUB WEEK 3
Thanks, Sonya! I really like your Emancipaption block.
I was able to catch up because I finally had a day off so I could sew. It really felt good.

Re: LUB WEEK 3
Happy to say I am now caught up..Love this block..(Ladies Aid..F-7) :)Construction went well..one bit of advice to newer quilters, though..as Papa would say.."let the saw do most of the work"..
. I kept saying and remembering those instructions while I was doing this block..Except..for us quilters..the advice is.."let the iron do most of the work."..I love wood working..and have helped papa mend many a fencing..
..He would tell me to saw lightly..in this case I ironed lightly. There are mostly biased edges in this block..In fact they all are until you get to final construction..when you iron..or even finger press...please do so softly..when you sew try to remember to always put the triangle on the bottom of your work..when you have a triangle that is constructed..(like the way they describe the "medium blue unit" in this case) put that unit on top and your unreconstructed (D triangle in this case) on the bottom when you sew..let the machine do the work..
Do not pull or stretch the fabric and use your stiletto to guide it through..Just some tips...others may do it different...and that is quite OK..this works best for me..
..Saying all that I know the small corner triangles (b) should be in the opposite corners..I was going to change it and correct it but I decide I actually like mine better that way..
..So I left it alone..Here it is..Week 3..finished!..

..Wow..sure had allot to say for such a small block..

Re: LUB WEEK 3
I finally finished my blocks! I hate not having dimensions to work with. I pieced the Emancipation block with the templates and ended up with a bigger than 6.5". I couldn't trim it without losing the corners. It will be a potholder. Then I tried paper piecing. I'm still so dyslexic with it. I even wrote the colors on my paper and couldn't follow even that! Another discard. Here are my final results...

Sonya--I started to place my triangles like you did in the Ladies Aid block and at the last moment changed them back to the book. I like yours, too!

Thanks, Miriam. Love your's..especially your Emancipation block..LOVE the fabric in that one for sure..I have gotten so many great ideas from looking at other's blocks.
..I tell you..I have so many scribbles in this book just from the blocks I have made..I am literally REWRITING these instructions as I go..If I EVER do any of these 6" blocks again...probably NOT..I will know how to do them ALLOT easier..I am spoiled since I started using QIAD back when she wrote her first book..and her methods and her ruler instructions I have found do not even come close to other's ways..at least for me..I do not do paper piecing for exactly the reason you say..The closest I come to paper piecing is my log cabin method..always use a muslin foundation..NONE of this flipping craziness..the pineapple log cabin and grandmother's flower garden where I use paper but not in the foundation method..Sonya.
Edited..as usual..for spelling..UGH!

Hi Lois,
Love your fabrics!
I may have to redo my Ladies Aid as well. My corner triangles are crooked.

Re: LUB WEEK 3
It took a blizzzard to keep me home and getting some sewing done, but I finally had a chance to do week 3 blocks. I do know that the small outside triangles are sewn underneath instead of on top as the directions show on the Ladies Aid block. I tried it that way, and decided I like it this way better. When it's all sewn together I don't think it will matter.
