Re: Need personal help - not quilting
Now you know why I'm not going to have another dog until I know it will out live me... it's just too hard to let them go. I had temporary custody of my son's black lab, JOLT for about 4 years. Shortly after he went to live with DS he got very sick and we had to let him go. I cried like a baby! For a while there, he was the only "person" that was happy to see me when I got home!
Also had temporaty custody of Jen's cat "Mattie" for a while, and tho I'm not a cat person really, I did get kind of sad when I had to give her back.
My heart goes out to you that have a lost a pet, funny how we get so attached to them.

Debbie & Leetec, I am so very very sorry about your losses. I totally understand the miserable feelings & the terrible sadness. The pain will ease somewhat, although you will always miss that special pet. A pet loves us unconditionally and is always there for us. They actually give so much more than they require back. Just know that your pets are not suffering any longer and running pain free. I have a dear special friend In Az. that has battled Cancer with her 7 yr old Husky, for 2 years. She lost him this past week. Had to let him go. The Cancer was spread and he was suffering. She too is going through the constant crying. It will get better. If not, you may want to visit with your Dr. You may need some help with a mild med or something for a short time, until you can get a grip on things. I am betting that you will be just fine and just going to have to ask God to help you get through the coming days. We have a 12 yr mini schnauzer that is really aging quickly, so I may be going through some of the same, one day soon. Both of you will be in my prayers. Jill & Elsie, run happy & free. You will be missed.

We have lost 2 dogs so far. We will never forget our babies and we still talk about them even though they have been gone for quite some time. I think having to put your dog to sleep is the ultimate sacrifice for someone you love. If you were selfish, you would have brought her home but you loved her so much you had to let her go.
Our Cassie (just turned 11) had a tumor on her leg in March. Before the doctor would operate, he took a chest xray. He said if there were turmors in her chest, there would be no reason to put her through surgery. We were so worried but the xray turned out clean and they were able to remove the tumor from her leg. She is doing fine.
I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm crying as I read this. It hurts no matter that you know that it was the right thing to do so that she was out of pain. My heart goes out to you and your family because I too know what it is like to loose a beloved family pet. They are so much a part of our daily lives it hurts to know that they will not be meeting at the door when we come home. Always remember the wonderful times that she brought into your life. Keep her in your heart always.

My mother just went thru this with her little dog about 2 years ago. We really got worried about mom so we all chipped in and bought her a new dog and she did better really fast. You might want to get another dog. My little Nadine and Rita are Jack Russell Terriors and they are so hiper. Would you like my Nadine? If you don't have other dogs she will do fine she is great with people just not other dogs. She is very close to me but I don't know what to do about 2 of them. I have had Rita for 5 years and Nadine is her baby she is 3 years old. I just had them both spayed last week.

Debbie, Leetec and all of you who have lost pets. It is one of the saddest times in our lives when our beloved pets leave us. I have been thru this when I was about 14, our Water Spaniel, who was about 12, had to be put to sleep, as tumors were reoccurring on his legs. Laddie was a sweet and gentle soul.
Debbie, my first thought was to tell you to get another pet. There are so many unwanted pets at the Humane Society. I will always remember Laddie.
Hugs to all of you who have pets and those of you who have lost their friends. The poem was so sweet.
Prayers also!

I had to skim over this, as I can't read about loosing your fur-babies! If anything happened to our Cassie (Sheltie) I would be so devastated!!!

Thanks Nadine for your PM.
I cried as I sat and read all of these posts over the weekend. All of you girls are so special. I am glad I found such wonderful people I can talk to. I feel so bad for everyone else here that has lost pets. It is a very rough time to go through.
I miss Elsie so much. Sometimes I think I'm going crazy. Every once in awhile, when I'm reading or watching TV I hear a dog bark that sounds like her and I actually get up and look out the door for her. And then I see her little grave out there. Maybe she is talking to me from doggie heaven.
I am supposed to be working on my jelly rolls and autograph blocks. I had only 5 block done when all this happened and I haven't even gone into my sewing room since then. Then my sister called and asked me to make a baby quilt for my niece's shower on July 22. Is she crazy? Well, I guess I need to find a way to get back into my sewing room and find an easy baby quilt pattern get busy cutting and sewing.
Thanks again everyone for thinking about me and my family.

Debbie and Leetec,
I am so very sorry for you losses. Our pets are so very special and yes they are members of our families. When we lost Sandy a cocker mix - 4 yrs ago - she was 13 and passed in her sleep - our Shih Tzu Wilbur cried constantly for weeks. I was forever wiping tears off of his cheeks. His crying made me upset and Wilbur and I were both crying. My DH said it was breaking his heart to see Wilbur and me crying and to please go get a new pup. The next day I put a deposit on a Mini Doxie - Sissy - and got her on August 20. Just telling Wilbur he was getting a new friend made him cry less and we were excited preparing for Sissy to get here. I mean we went all out, a crate with a nice little bed to put in it.. took an old toss blanket and put that in the crate. The day I brought Sissy home from the breeder, Wilbur was alllll smiles to the point he was drooling in delight. We put Sissy in her crate to sleep and he'd lay far enough away to watch over her. As he got more used to her, he'd lay much closer to the crate and watch over her. Now, they are thick as theives, totally inseparable.
I felt like I was doing something wrong getting Sissy so soon after losing Sandy but ya know, Sandy is running around in Sissy's body. They both have the exact same loving disposition and gentleness. The only difference with them is Sissy plays ball! Sandy never played dog games, guess she thought she was a princess.
The tears will stop. We cried for days after we lost Sandy. It does get easier and YES, they do talk to us from pet heaven. You do hear their barks and feel their presence around you. They are always in our hearts and souls as are we in theirs.

Re: Need personal help - not quilting
So sad.
I can't stop crying now either. I too have lost dogs over the years. I have a poem that a friend gave me when my first dog died and I have added the names and pictures to this poem after another of my dogs dies. I find comfort when reading this:
The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting Heaven & Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of
meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail animals are young again. Those who
are maimed are made whole. They play together all day.
There is only one thing missing: They are not with
their special person who loved them on Earth.
Each day they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring!
And this one suddenly runs from the group.
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet,
you take him or her in your arms and embrace.
Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once
more into the eyes of your trusting friend.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together,
never again to be separated.
