First Name: Nancy
Quilting since: 1986 - last year successfully completed an intense 2 year course of six modules (phew) and am now a professional judge of quilts and textiles.
Mentors: Nancy Crow; Eleanor Burns; Roberta Horton; Pauline Burbidge
Favourite Colours: Muted shades and pretty much anything except purple or grey
Favourite Style of Quilt: appreciate all forms although Traditional; Amish; Antique and the work of Harriet Powers are of particular interest.
Favourite Style of Fabrics: Reproductions; plains; plaids.
Fabrics I choose not to use : overly bright colours, batiks, orientals, novelties
Hand or Machine Quilt: Either, depends on my mood and whether or not I have a deadline although I feel at one with my machine when appliquéing.
Brand of Machine: Bernina 1260Q (circa 1997) bought new (so excited in the shop that I hyperventilated and had to breathe into a paper bag to regain composure); Bernina 1630 (circa 1992 - bought secondhand in 2007); Elna Stella (circa 1969 - bought secondhand in 2005).
Favorite Candy: Don’t eat sweets; prefer crisps (chips I think you call them) and salted almonds - oh dear, drooling now

.
ALLERGY ALERTS: Horsefly bites (six days in hospital - not fun); Shellfish and raw strawberries
Hobbies: reading (J.R.R. Tolkein, Dorothy L Sayers, Agatha Christie, Mary Wellesley, Jodi Picoult, Anita Shreve); cross stitch; needlepoint; keeping a written journal illustrated with small watercolour sketches; genealogy; cake decorating for the family; art exhibitions.
Favourite Book : Lord of the Rings
Favourite Films : Anything with Katharine Hepburn and any Star Trek (bit of a ST nerd, sad to say).
Pets: Have no pets of our own although a black Labrador in our small village (45 houses and a 1000 year old church) has adopted us as her second family and visits most days. Used to have an Irish Setter who has long since gone to that "kennel in the sky", still get a lump in the throat when I think of her or see another Setter

.
Family: One husband whom I adore; two sons; two daughters-in-law; two grandsons (22 and 20 months) with one grandchild due today (16th July 2009).
It has been lovely reading all your entries - am I the only one in the UK? Surely not. Found this site while searching for various notions after watching Eleanor on "Quilt in a Day" which has just come to our British tv screens.
