teresa, i have a confession to make also...
(eyes down, feet shuffling... toes playing with the fabric scraps on the floor...)
i... don't... wash... mine... either...
:c( sorry also,
but i will!, i have been thinking about this, and... i can put them into a rinse wash on their own with 10 colour catchers!!!!!
yeahhh!!! :c)
to be honest, i really didn't think!! forgot totally if you like... and totally swept up in the initial excitement at the beginning of the swap, and i was sewing on high adrenaline!!!
i admit it, i'm a sew-aholic and don't want rehabilitating!!
off to the washer i go!!

Maybe i will try not spinning them. I have a front load washer that has that setting, hadn't thought about color catchers, guess they are likely to bleed some. I was actually told by my LQS owner that almost all fabrics are colorfast today and this is not so much a problem as it used to be. She doesn't wash any of her fabrics before using except for some of the reds. I am not sure if this holds true for batiks. Probably depends on where you get them and their quality, same as everything else.

Yikes! I guess I started a great debate on wash or not to wash!
I always wash all my fabric first... an old habit I guess. When I started sewing back when I was a "kid" I think I was told by somebody--can't remember who... to wash all fabric first! Sometimes, if I'm lucky I get the fabric out of the dryer while it's still a little damp. That seems to make it a easier to iron.
I've heard y'all mention color grabbers, but have never tried them. So far I've been lucky and not had colors bleed! Perhaps I'll "re-wash" one of my batik blocks just to test for bleeding!

Maryq, did you take home ec? I did and that was were I was "told" to wash all material, of course that was sewing for clothes
)and my mom has always washed material too and of course my grandmas and great grandmas made their quilts out of old clothes so they had been washed many many times
) LOL I kinda think of it as buying clothes, I always wash them before I wear them.....never know where they've been or what's been on them.
I just sort my fabric into lights, med and darks and wash them in small loads....don't really have a problem with bad wrinkles and I have a front load washer...I let it spin and do it's regular stuff I just put it on perm press setting and I iron everything when it comes out of the dryer.

Oh yes I had Home Ec. Not until 10th grade though. Back when I was a kid I went to Catholic school for 9 years and we didn't get home ec then... not until I went to Public school! My Mom didn't sew much as I remember, who could with 7 kids running around!
Stopped by Joann on my way home from work today and picked up a few more pieces of Batiks--they don't have much of a selection, so only found 2 I liked! Got that fabric washed and the pieces cut and since I'm thinking we'll be snow bound here in MN tomorrow, I think I'll spend the day sewing!

Mary, I started home ec when I was in 7th grade and had it every year after
) I loved it!
I'm going to try to get some blocks done today too
) things just keep getting in the way LOL like the baby quilt and this morning my cocker has to have a bath and haircut so as soon as he wakes up and does his morning business it's off we go to the tub for a scrub then drying and cutting all the hair off, I keep him slick when it's warmer weather and it's been in the high 70's here and he's starting to act hot. Hopefully between today and tomorrow I'll get some blocks done and post some pix
) Hopefully LOL

WOW you are on a roll! WooHoo
Sending you some CA sunshine today to keep you warm. I predict the wind will whisk all the snow away from your house. -grin- OK so one can hope?
Thanks for keeping us all motivated to get moving. -grin-

Re: MapleLeaf Swap - Marcy?
Maryq, I know what you mean...I just finished up my first five maple leaf blocks and they are addicting! What fun to make.
I just noticed that the picture zfatcat posted of the quilt made with these blocks seem to have a narrower (is that even a word?) stem than these directions called for. I just want to make sure I did not make mine wrong. Mine does look like the Jacquie's and Maryq's, though....just wondering....
When are these due, anyway?
