Would be fun! I always love Christmas and log cabins. But we won't be home in time to 'git 'er dun'! So I'll have to take a pass. But I'll have fun looking at all your blocks!

This will be fun done in the greens and whites - I have a wreath pattern that uses log cabin blocks for a Christmas quilt - I have made it several times - the last one, Sarah has because I turned four blocks the wrong way - I see it - she didn't care - so she took it - I was going to pitch the quilt in the trash - but she saved it. I had it all quilted when I saw the mistake.
So now I could possibly try again - that is if I win!!!
Oh great hand of the picker - see I need to win!!!
Does begging help in the begining?? LOL

Well, I don't have any blocks made yet, had the strips cut at 2-1/2 for 4 blocks and kept looking at your earlier directions (I always print out that part so I can have something to look at right on my cutting table) that says it is a 12" block and couldn't figure out why my block was 12" and I didn't have the last row on yet. Then I saw that the strips needed to be 2-1/2" so the froggin' began. Then I sewed a 2-1/2 red to a 2-1/4 white and wasn't sure how wide to cut it so I was just coming here to ask the question and I see you have revised your directions. So, I will just ditch the 2-1/4" white strip that I cut and go back to the 2-1/2 and sew them all back together again. Froggin' was ok as I was sitting outside yesterday and there was a breeze the dog was snoring in the grass.
Definitely won't be in the mail next week like I had planned but will be in your hands before the end of July.

Here are my 4.
A little tip: always keep the longest, also the last strip across the top of the block. When ironing, it will keep the seam going away from the center (per El) and when sewing, lay it face down on the next strip you are going to sew with it across the top again. I know because I did a little "froggin" myself. After I kept saying that to myself, it went smoothly.
I just ordered some Christmas fabric, so I will possibly do a few more. Such nice big blocks. I see a table runner or table topper in the making.

Linda - Thanks for the tip!! Mu computer is in my sewing room so I paused the vimeo at the point where you can see the positioning of the block and kept looking at it before I sewed on the next strip. One can definitely loose track of where you are. Once I made my first one it was smooth sailing from then on as long as I had my sample in front of me

WONDERFUL FABRIC choices as always!!!! Can't wait to see your block!!!
The lighter side of the block can have colors in the strips as long as the white, cream, golds are more dominant. It does not have to be all TOT's

Suggestions for fabrics - plaids - some may work - others don't - I did a log cabin star quilt with a green plaid - green and gold - nice piece on it's own - but oh how it stands out in the quilt - in fact that top is a permanent UFO - I just use it as a pattern to make more and show my students what not to do.
I am on the hunt for some fun christmas fabrics - just stuck at the house for a day or so more - don't want to be out when they close off the roads again -

Great Tip Jana - THANK YOU -
Have you used strips with small hints of black in them. I don't want to be to picky but a quilt with brighter colors would be great.
I just ordered some fabrics from QIAD with the FREE shipping

Glad to know you are staying inside away from the smoke
Prayers for everyone's safety.

Hi Teresa,
I am not going to be able to participate this month.
I looks like a lot of fun.
Hope to be back in the quilt loop next month.
