Re: Sweet Somethings - A Dessert Block Swap--ON THE WAY HOME!!!
I've just added a note to the discussion above about designs and techniques. Sorry, but I don't have any blocks made yet. I've seen several, including the ones Marilynsgrammy so kindly posted links for. Thanks for doing that. We just want this to be fun, so please choose a design you'll enjoy making.
So, Marilynsgrammy, may we assume you are in as well?

I am not quite there yet.... after work tomorrow I will attempt to make a dessert block... and if it comes out ok I may be able to make 19 more....
do the corner stones need to be fussy cut?
I am seriously considering this.....

No. The cornerstones do not need to be fussy cut. Of course they can be if you prefer to do it that way. I have an all-over design novelty fabric with cute little cupcakes on a pink background. I'm just going to cut 30 3-1/2" squares out of that. Easy as pie, piece of cake, if you'll forgive the puns!

This sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm not sure I can do it. This is tempting, but. . . I'll have to try something first, like find a pattern that isn't paperpieced that I can do. carol/kittyquilt

Kittyquilt, and anyone else who's considering jumping in on this one, please don't let it scare you! Remember, your block can feature anything sweet. A dessert could be anything from a piece of pie, cake or a doughnut, to a piece of candy, or even a piece of fruit. A popsicle, ice cream cone or ice cream bar, or a candy cane would work. Sewcarolyn's suggestion for using a cookie cutter design for applique is terrific, if you don't mind applique. I've even seen some traditionally pieced patterns out there for this sort of thing. Salt water taffy is one, I believe. Even if everyone participating happened to choose the very same pattern (the chances of that are slim), each block would still be different due to the fabrics. It will be really cute when it all comes together. I haven't made up my mind yet what I'll be making, but I'm definitely going use a simple pattern.

Here is a link to a salt water taffy quilt pattern. These blocks are only 8" but could easily be enlarged to 10.5" If you wanted to do a piece of candy.

or here is another one that would be an easy Salt Water Taffy block
It is rectangle that you could very easily add to to make a 10.5" block

Sounds like a fun swap but a little time consuming for me right now. I can't wait to see what you guys do with your swaps! Amie

Ok, I am in... ugh... I did give it a second thought after I read that it's " easy as pie.." too funny.
Come on Kittyquilt us C's gotta stick together... you can do it.... one of the sites I listed wasa pie... just the top and a pan... too simple.
