Swaps questions about return postage/envelope/box, need help

Post by Kittyquilt9292 » Wed Oct 03, 2007 1:12 pm

I haven't been in a swap before, so I need some help. What does everyone include for the return of the blocks or FQ's? I was going to send mine in the "flat rate box". I cannot send one of those boxes because they are as big as the box I'm sending everything in. So, what to do??????? Or should I send some other way? What does everyone do? Thanks bunches, Carol/kittyquilt

The flate rate boxes are free at the PO. I am sending postage for the flat rate box & and writing up a return address on the PO free labels. That is just to cut down on the time the hostess has to package things back up. :) Sharon V.

Which swap are you in?

For the Fall Block swap, the free envelopes from the post office with the $4.60 stamp is enough. The return envelope is the same size and folds up nicely and slides right into the sending envelope. Make sure they weigh it. I left mine unsealed just in case.

Which was a good thing for the autograph blocks. They weighed 3 ounces over the flat rate of $4.60. But, they weighed it and added 30 cents in stamps to the sending and returning envelopes. Then I sealed it in front of him.

I'm not sure yet what the postage will be for the flannel fat quarter swap. It's bound to weigh more.

For the charm swaps, the $4.60 is sufficient. But still, get it weighed before mailing and they will stamped it as being weighed.

For the Flannel Fat Quarter Swap I used the priority envelope from the post office, it was cheaper to send that way then the box. The envelope was $6.20 and a flat rate box is $8.95. I put the return postage on another envelope and slid it into the package

I buy one of the white envelopes that don't tear very easy. Have them figure out the weight from the envelope you are sending and put the postage on the envelope and tuck it in with your fabric. The first class envelopes are free. Bev

Keep in mind postage is now based on distance, size & weight - unless you go with the flat rate packages. I'm the hostess for a birthday FQ Exchange on another list - 39 participatants. What a nightmare when it comes to postage and packaging.

Although everyone is sending in the same # of FQ, some are sending in birthday cards and not all FQ are created equal (or they have that card board folded into them). As a result, the same postage is not getting the packages back to their owners. Then there's the return packaging! I've got to store it for a year. Next year, if I do this again, I'm just going to ask for a self addressed return label and ask for cash to cover the flat rate plus delivery confirmation (currently $9.60). Don't send me stamps and don't send me packaging. I'll deal w/the packaging and buy the postage when I take the packages to the post office.

I sent my flannel FQ's out this morning & I used a priority envelope from the post office had it weighed & figured how much it was going to be & put another one inside with the correct postage.

I was concerned about packaging as well, but my folks at my post office always hook me up ;)
