Scissor question
I have a pair of scissors that are clearly marked "FABRIC ONLY" in big letters on a piece of tape hanging off them like a flag, despite this my MIL decides to use them for cutting a bunch of paper while here the other day. I told her she ruined a good pair of scissors and that they weren't any good to me on fabric any more. She then tells me not to worry about it because I can just have them sharpened and they'll be fine. There are visible dents in many places and I tried cutting through a piece of scrap fabric and it looks like I tried to cut it with a hack saw! My question is, can getting them sharpened bring them back to fabric cutting quality or am I just out a good pair of scissors?

HI, Tell your MIL that she owes you a good pair of sissors for your fabric. It never ceases to amaze me that people take it for granted they can use (or abuse) other peoples stuff no matter what it is. good Luck, Marge

Re: Scissor question
Have your MIL buy you another pair for Christmas. Of course, that's in addition to what she had planned to buy you anyway. LOL

Re: Scissor question
Yes, I think sharpening can restore them. I use my good Gingher shears for EVERYTHING, and have them periodically sharpened by Gingher. I did have them sharpened once by someone at a quilt show and was not as happy with that job.
Anyway, peace between you and your MIL is more important than the scissors, so if they CAN'T be restored, buy a new pair and hide them better next time!!!
It doesn't sound like she is showing any remorse!!

Re: Scissor question
I'd have them sharpened and if that doesn't work tell your MIL that she owes you a pair of scissors exactly like the ones she ruined. No one goes in my sewing studio unless I personally invite them in. I can pitch a real hissy fit and have done so a time or two. My family knows to stay out and don't touch my quilting/sewing stuff. It's all in the training - LOL.

Re: Scissor question
Yes Cindy training is in order here I think.
DH and I share the basement, I have a quarter he has another quarter and our daughter has the other half, lol. He knows not to touch my stuff, but this time MIL was over to babysit while I was out for black friday. She was here to cover the extra hour the DH wouldn't be home. As it turns out though, I was home about 5 minutes after DH left. With in that 5 minutes she went into the basement, where she has never been before, and started snooping. She even went through my fabric and tossed some of it on the floor on top of cutting up a bunch of DH's computer paper. Mean while Megan was upstairs crying because she was left alone.
DH and have already decided that she is no longer allowed to babysit, since she really isn't watching Megan at all. I think I will see if I can get them sharpened and if not then I guess she'll just have to pay to get them replaced. I have only had them since August. DH bought them for me as a wedding anniversary gift.

Re: Scissor question
I have a lock on my sewing room door and if I'm not in there it's locked. One new doorknob with lock saves me a lot of frustration.
