Quilting Thread: What is Glazed or Glaced threads?

Does anyone use this type of thread? Is it coated with something or is it a Poly/Cotton wrapped thread?

I have some and on the spool end it says for Hand Quilting. It doesn't get tangled up when you hand sew, it is a little stiffer than regular thread, and glides through the fabric. I read somewhere that it is not for use on a sewing machine. I don't know why. I've used it on my sewing machine and it sewed smooth as silk.

1quiltin - I think glazed thread has a coating on it so it doesn't knot up. Don't hold me to that.

If this is for hand work GP was telling me about how wonderful silk thread is. It's like sewing thru butter when you hand stitch the binding to the back of a quilt and it would also work on hand applique. I'm going to buy some at the quilt show.
