Basting Gun

Post by dsf618 » Thu Aug 30, 2007 8:18 am

Has anyone ever used the June Taylor's basting gun? Does it work well? Is it easier than pinning?

Deb. go into the search a type basting gun. A while back there was a lot of posts on that subject. . . . some complained it didn't hold the quilt sandwich tight enough and others loved it.

I haven't used one to baste a quilt yet, but I used it instead of pins to keep block pieces organized. Very handy.

I'm not sure of the brand but I did try the basting gun. The little plastic things (don't know what they are called) jammed every other time. I was so frustrated with it I tossed it.

I just used the spray basting for the wall hanging I did. It was really great. I'm going to use it on a larger quilt next to see how it does. It held the fabric in place really well. I've never tried the basting gun though.

I've never tried the basting gun. Ever since I tried the 505 basting spray, I lost all interest in trying out other basting methods..:-) Now, its just basting spray for me!

So do you threaten the quilt that you'll shoot it if it doesn't stay together or what? What is it and how does it work? Please excuse my ignorance once more!!

The basting gun inserts little plastic tack thingies like the kind that hold price tags on clothes, but shorter, to hold the layers together.
I just re-read that sentence. It may not clarify anything! Here's a web page with a picture.

Maybe that'll help.

Does the Basting Spray hold the quilt sandwich together so you don't have to pin? If so, I am going to buy that! What a time saver!
