Has anyone used the Clover yo yo maker?

Post by sewbug » Mon Jun 11, 2007 5:24 am

I've been seeing a lot of yo yo quilts lately on blogs. Most posted the yo yo maker made it easy and fast to make all the yo yos. I didn't know Clover made a yo yo maker. I'm off to Hobby Lobby to see if I can find one.

Hi Sewbug,
We had several people here try them out and everyone loved them. They make it so easy to make Yo-Yo's in uniform sizes.

At the end of the month, Clover is coming out with more Yo-Yo makers. They have two sizes of hearts; two sizes of flowers, and giant and extra small circles for regular Yo-Yo's. I will let you know when they are available.

I think I will check them out when they are available on QIAD. I tried making them once, but it was the old-fashioned way without the little plastic circles etc. They would be fun to make as a take-a-long project for those like me who do only machine quilting. I do like to some hand items now and then...but not the quilting stitch. One of the gals from my quilt guild made a small lap quilt by just putting yo-yo's together and it was just beautiful and lacy looking.

I bought the 2 sizes in Paducah - and I'm addicted to them. They are so easy to make - better than the old fashioned way. They come out very uniform.

naniyosie,
You bought them in Paducah? You could have even checked out at my register! Too bad we didn't "know" each other then!

I was working for El last year. I was at the register at the back of the barn, for the most part. I also did some fabric cutting in the tent. Next year we are going to have a forum meeting at El's - maybe even have lunch with the good looking firedudes.

I also am interested in the Clover Yo Yo Maker. Does anyone know the finished size of the yo yo's using these tools? 2nd question: Has anyone used the circle cutter that QIAD has, it looks like a gadget that would actually make cutting circles easier. A pattern, in the current issue of F & P has a basket with flowers made of several sizes of yo yo's. I am wanting to do that, but as always I'm looking for an easier method to accomplish this. It's on page 78.

I am going to buy the Yo-Yo maker...prob. in both sizes....and, the newest ones when they come out. I saw a quilt made from soft pastel yo-yo's and it was gorgeous...very soft/pretty and cheerful looking. A fun project to do and can take it along and make the Yo-Yo's on a trip. Thanks for all your comments and tips.
