I was wrong.

I posted about the chalk Pounce being a wast of money and how messy it was. Well, I had someone show me the correct way to use it and it works great. You don't pounce it at all. In fact you never pounce it. I was pouncing it and that made the big chalk mess. You rub it over the stencil. No chalk dust went all over and the stencil design showed up great. I think the name of the product, Pounce, gives the wrong idea. A lot better instructions need to come with the product.

I tried pouncing and used the stroking motion that I thought I was supposed to, but I STILL thought it was messy...or at least not as good as the chalk pencils I use to draw the stencil pattern now. The pencils seem to have a better staying power than the pounce pad. But in all fairness, I will give it another try sometime. The quilt I am quilting now, I am using the pencils and I am happy, happy!!

I tried swiping the pad over the stencil, also, and I can't get enough chalk out to see. Then what does come out won't stay put.

Spritz a bit of water on the fabric before you pounce (rub). That will keep the chalk "put" better. It's a great way to mark quilts.

qltsbme: Do you use it on the longarm? That's where my trouble comes - with getting the chalk to stay on. The hopping foot just bounces it right off. Haven't tried the water.

That's good to hear, SewBug. I have those but have not had the opportunity to use them yet. Did you use the Full Line Stencils or the mylar stencils with your pouncer?

Yup, QC, I use it on my long arm. The water trick seemed to really help. It dries well and the chalk is still easy to remove.

if i remember correctly when i saw it demonstrated on a quilting programn they said to spray a light layer of hair spray before you pounce and it will stay on better but still will come off with spraying of water or steam from iron it looked so good i order the pounce pad and chalk but have not used it yet ollie1shoe
