Cindyg I use the Generals Chalk Pencils. I am happy with them so far.

Never heard of Generals chalk pencils, but thanks for all the endorsements....I will check them out at my Michaels next time I am near the place. I love this community....a quilter gets to ask the quilters instead of the marketers!!

I have some Generals Chalk pencils and rarely use them. I find the points to be really thick (can't make a fine line) and the markings hard to remove, especially the pink. Maybe we're not talking about the same thing!

QC - what do you use?

Chacoliners, the purple disappearing marking pen, and the white Clover marking pen that disappears when you blast it with the steam iron, mostly. I think I've tried about everything out there.

I used the purple pen also and like it very much and have no trouble getting the marks off, just use a damp cloth and it disappears. On the dark fabric I had used soap already and it worked. Just shave it down to a nice clean edge.. The reason I had used soap was I wanted to finish what I was working on and stores are to far away for me to just run in for a marker. Mary Ann

garden, that has never happened to me, but I have heard some horror stories about years later the marks will reappear brown. Well, I figure I'll be dead & gone by then & it will be someone else's problem! I do know that when I have used the blue water erasable marker that sometimes the marks will reappear after you have removed them (if you don't wash the quilt). That's because they go down into the batting and then come back up - kinda like a stain on a carpet. LOL. But they do come out when the quilt is washed, as will the purple if it doesn't disappear by itself.

I used General brand lt. gray marking pencil on yellow. I tried to erase it with the eraser on the pencil, but it would not come out completely. It is a baby quilt so I as hesitant to use chemicals. It is ruining my quilt. Any suggestions?

I use the pounce pad with the white chalk only I don't use the color chalk's they are harder to get out. I also use white chalk sticks. For the lighter fabric's I use the blue pen and spray it out with water.
