Quilt Frame for machine quilters?
Hi, all. I purchased a Larry Flynt quilt frame but am having extreme difficulty setting it up and using it. Does anyone have any recommendations for a quilting system for machine quilters?
All comments welcome. Thanks!

Elizaquilt - Larry Flint makes it look so easy, doesn't he? I'm sorry I can't help you - I have a B-Line frame.

Re: Quilt Frame for machine quilters?
I have a Little Gracie frame. I use either a Bernina 1260 or a Janome Memory Craft 6500 Pro sewing machine with it, but no matter--I just cannot get uniform stitches. I have tried off and on for 4 years now with no avail. I purchase their new attachments (electric switch, etc.) but still can't get uniform stitches. They tell me it takes hours and hours of practice. I have neither the patience nor the time to spend countless continuous hours practicing. It seems as if there has to be an easier way to end up with nice stitching. I know I am fussy, but when you put the money and work into a quilt, the quilting finishes it off and you want it to look good. I am not planning to purchase a new and improved machine to do this work. Does anyone have a pointer on how to get the results I want? Thanks!

You're cracking me up!! Larry Flynt is the guy who produces pornography and has been in many legal battles!! The frame is the JOHN FLYNN frame! Hmmm!
One member of our guild gave a demonstration on the John Flynn Frame a month ago. It looked complicated to me, but she loves it. Says she saves up quilt tops and then does several at a time when she has her machine hooked up to the frame. I know she has had lots of practice - and her stitches seemed very even. I guess what they say about practice, Practice, PRACTICE is important.
Good luck with it - and I hope you find info more helpful than mine.

OMG - I just heard something about Larry Flynt - oh, my boss and co-worker were talking about him. I guess the name stuck in my brain matter - good grief. I bet Larry F. wouldn't know a quilt frame if it bit him on the a**. Sorry for the boo-boo.
Ann74 - you might ask at your dealer if there is a cruise (speed)control that would work on either of your machines. It is a big help.

Re: Quilt Frame for machine quilters?
John Flynn is a great guy and very taleted but his frame is worthless, IMO. MANY,MANY quilters give them away for free in my Yahoo groups and there are not may takers. I DO admire his work though...very nice indeed. However, buying a real frame is worth every cent..honest. And, the QCC (SR) is just wonderful. I'm sorry to sound crass, I don't mean to. I just hate to think about anyone fighting with the Flynn frame. This opinion is pretty well known.
But, if you are determined, load muslin on and practice, practice. It can't hurt. Then, when the next show comes your way, go and test out the Hinty, B-line, ProFlex or even a Prodigy or Gammil. Frame systems are very affordable now, like $3000 for the HintyStretch AND Voyager 17! I have a B-line/Juki/QCC now, but I'm stepping up this summer. There are MANY good systems out now and most are affordable. Good Luck, Amie

Re: Quilt Frame for machine quilters?
At a quilt show in February I bought an Easy Quilter - it's on the same general idea as Flynn's except you move your machine like on a longarm but it fits on a 48" x 30" table. I had seen it on line and watched it demonstrated and even used it at the show. It was more than the Flynn but I think it'll work real well for someone like me that can't afford the $3000++ for a longarm setup. Plus my hubby just wouldn't agree to giving up the living room for one! I'll let you know when I finally get to use it. I'm piecing as fast as I can!
