I need to know which thread do you use for hand and machine quilting. The only thread I find here (in Canary Islands - Spain) is Guttermann.

Thanks a lot

Handquilting thread has a wax finish on it. Machine quilting thread doesn't, 30 wt. and 40 wt. is great for MQ. Just make sure to use a size 90 topstitching needle with the thick threads. Canary Islands? Sounds wonderful! Amie

I am a new hand-quilter but have been told by another very experienced hand-quilter that the only thread she will use for this purpose is the Guttermann thread that is specifically for hand-quilting. That is what I am using and I love it.

I'm a Guttermann fan too. If I can't find had quilting thread, I'll run lengths of machine
quilting thread through beeswax. It really does stitch up without making "bird nests".

Guttermann is good for hand quilting. Also catalogs and online off thread that says for hand quilting. It's usually a heavier thread.

I, personally, do not like Gutterman thread. It always breaks on me. I use YLI.

I agree about the YLI I LOVE it and I never use anything else. The YLI select is the best IMO. It NEVER breaks!
