Walking foot
I have a Brother Cs600i. The walking foot has really been acting up lately. It clunks when it's in use. It comes all the way up like I've lifted the needle and foot up and then back down - this happens while sewing. I use it for about two hours and then it acts up. I "let it rest" for a day and go back and it's fine for another two hours and then acts up again. Am I using it too much? I would hate to replace it - those suckers are expensive! $60 each. Thanks!

Re: Walking foot
I use a walking foot alot. I have only once had a problem. I had not got the little lever hooked right on the screw. It did similar to what yours is doing. I am careful to get it right and I've not had a problem since. I sure hope you can get it figured out without buying a new one. They do cost a lot. Good luck.

Re: Walking foot
I don't have a walking foot, so I can't help here, but I'm wondering if it's really a great thing or just an OK thing? I have no idea if it's worth it to even buy one for my Bernina. What do you folks who have one think? Thanks, mary z

Re: Walking foot
Having a walking foot is essential in my book. I not only use it when I am sewing layers of the quilt I use it to put my bindings on etc. It is also called an "even feed" foot as it guides your fabric along with the feed dogs on the bottom. Worth every penny. Just my two cents worth. Marge

Re: Walking foot
I have a Brother PQ1500S. A year or so ago I was having trouble with the walking foot, I thought, but it turned out to be trouble with the feed dogs. Once they were replaced the walking foot worked fine.
Here's my tow cents worth. I agree with Marge. A walking foot is essential.

Re: Walking foot
Thanks all - I haven't used it since I finished my last quilt. However, I'm expecting some material in the mail - backing for my Christmas place mats so I'll let you know how it goes. The machine is beyond warranty. 8-(

I find it is good to use when I make flannel quilts, It keeps the flannel form stretching as I sew. I would not be with out one I use mine alot.

Re: Walking foot
I like the even feed foot. Years ago before they had them I tried to put a new satin lining in a wool coat by machine with an ordinary foot. DISASTER !!...... Had to take it out and redo it by hand. A big lesson learned.
