How do you like your 1/4 inch piecing foot?

Post by northbound » Thu Aug 13, 2009 9:52 am

El uses a 1/4 inch foot in at least one of her DVDs that has a blade on the right side to butt the fabric edge against. I'm thinking of trying one for my Singer 99. Anybody use one and whaddya think?

I have the Bernina (#57 foot) that you are describing. It is really wonderful when doing a straight edge seam, however I also have a quarter inch foot without the "blade" (#37 foot) I use for things like flying geese and half square triangles. Both feet are essential, also the even-feed foot and an applique foot (#23) for curves of an applique. I haven't sewn on a Singer though in many years so hopefully others will have input for you.

My Janome came with the 1/4" foot with the blade and I love it. Don't know how I got along without it.

i have 7 singers including 2 treadles and my feather weight, and two new ones, i use the 1/4 in foot on all of them. the only one i had to by a diff foot for was the one singer that is a slant. i also have 1/4 for my 870 viking. i love them, no guessing about sewing a 1/4 in seam.

Ohh I just love the 1/4" foot. It sure does help you get a perfect 1/4" seam allowance and I would not do with out it. I used the have the use a ruler and a pen to draw a 1/4 line for the seam allowance the this foot sure took that method away so it is now much faster to get things sewn in a perfect 1/4" seam allowance. I use mine on all my machines as well. Have a great day, huggies, Fay

I sewed with El at one of her retreats. We used the same machine she uses, and loved both the Esprie and the foot you described( so much I bought one). You will love the foot. It makes the seam alot easier to be exact.

I would not piece anything without my quarter inch foot - I love it!! The accuracy of my seam allowance and matching points has increased tremendously!! I am even ready to try a Mariner's Compass quilt!!

I didn't think it mattered that much. I think I've got a pretty decent "eyeball", but DH gave me a 1/4 inch foot for my Bernina for Christmas and now all (well, most) of my points match perfectly. No more guesswork. Everything looks much nicer. It's definitely a must-have in my book! mary z
