Flying Geese Ruler "One" and the 2 1/2" fussy cut ruler

I love it when I discover I have stuff to make my piecing easier.

I'm making 6" (finished) blocks with 1" x 2" finished flying geese for a swap I'm in. I picked these blocks because I knew I had a QIAD ruler for this size geese. However, since it's the one on the end, I have to turn the ruler to make that bottom cut.

Since these are so small, I decided I'd piece them to the next piece and then square up the entire unit since I'm sewing the top of the geese to the other piece. (OK, I'm typing this and realize it's not making much sense. Maybe I can do a 'big finish')

Anyway, I pulled out my 2 1/2" fussy cut ruler and discovered that with the center marked corner to corner, this is the exact thing that I need to finish up the geese. I still have to turn the geese to get to the bottom, but the diagonal lines line up just like the lines on the flying geese ruler, so I know exactly where to place the ruler!

very cool... thanks for the tip... I use one of those rotating mats... that way I turn the mat and not the block... I do wish I would have gotten the bigger one.. mine is 12 inch...

I love those mats and use them when I'm doing geese. However if you are doing the smaller of the two geese on a ruler, you can't cut all 4 sides w/o moving the ruler and/or fabric.

I used my large Flying geese ruler yesterday for the fitrst time and I also used my rotating cutting mat to square the mup with . I'm making the pillow cases in the book Flying Geese by Eleanor Burns. The geese came out beautiful I didn't have to do any squaring up, but when I sewed in the lattice, I came up short on one of the geese. Coulmn't figure it out why. I took that apart and I discovered I have my machine on the wrong stitch lengh and maybe that was part of the problem. Then decided to make the latic that same color as the sky and I'll work on that later today after all the sewing and quilting shows are over with. Love those geese,,, honk , honk, Have a great day, huggies, Fay
