Cordless Irons? **UPDATE**

Ok - who's got a cordless iron and which one do I want and which ones do I NOT want? I told DH that I want one for Christmas but really don't know which one is a good one - especially for quilting.

I haven't used one so I'd like to know the pros and cons too. I know I will never buy another cordless mixer! LOL

I have a Maytag and I really love it. The point is really pointed which is great when pressing corners. I do know one person who had some problems w/ the coating on the bottom. However, mine has been fine.

don't buy the shark... ugh, it doesn't heat up well and is totally worthless.....

but that is just my opinion....

I have a Maytag and love it to death, but Maytag had now been bought out by Fridgidare and no longer even makes my iron anymore. Just thinking about where I might find a suitable replacement just makes me itch, lol ) It's hard to find a good cordless like this one. Maybe ebay.... Amie )

I have an Oreck and it works OK. If you are ironing a big piece of material it does not stay really hot for a long period of time. You have to sit it back on the charger/base for a minute or too in order for it to re-heat. My DD found it a garage sale a couple of years ago for $4.00. (Maybe that's why there were selling it?) It's OK.

Like Rosie and Amie, I have a Maytag I bought brand new on Ebay for about $80 (but, they're right, you may not be able to find one due to sell out--try Ebay, tho.)

I love mine to death, too! Pros are: GREAT for pressing blocks, stips,fat quarters, etc., short time pressing and ironing. Convenient! I have mine on the right side of my cutting table. I press after sewing seams.

You do have to wait a minute after the heat reduces as you iron, for it to heat back up, but there is a light to tell you when it is heating up - when the light is out, it is hot enough. Recovery is fast, though.

The main reason I bought it is the no cord feature. The cord really gets in my way when I'm using an iron for my piecing..and it's well worth it to me not to have that aggravation!

Do not buy it for general ironing, though. It will just frusterate you to no end...

I had a Magtag cordless and I loved it.... until it started leaking and it was not repairable. Water just poured out - so I ditched it. I gave my BFF one and I noticed last weekend that hers is beginning to leak, also. A cordless iron is wonderful when you are trying to iron large pieces of fabric.

Get the Maytag if you can find one. Last yr I bought one for my Mom and another one for me, to put in the RV. Check your Maytag stores, you might find they still have them.

I got a Panasonic for $63 last year from the Panasonic website. It is the best iron I ever had. It''''''''''''''''s hard to believe how much easier it is to use without wrestling with the cord.
