Question About My Basting Spray
Just read the thread about 505 Basting Spray and didn't want to hijack the thread. I've always used Aqua Net hairspray. Never had a problem with it. Do any of you know of reasons why I should quit using the AN and start using the 505? I'm thinking you all might know something I don't, and I do love to learn something new every day.

Hairspray????
Does it really keep the layers together? I know I live in a quilting-challenged country, but I've never heard of anyone trying that... As long as it works, though, I think you should stick to it, LOL!

Re: Question About My Basting Spray
You know, when I asked a question a while back when I was making a tote, someone else said they used hairspray instead of basting spray. I should try it on a small project. I remember using hairspray on flowers I had dried and it held them together nicely instead of buying a special spray. My only concern is does it really wash out? I suppose it does...it washes out of your hair! Interesting!

Notwhatiseam - does hair spray gunk up your needle. If not I think this is a great idea - no doubt less expensive than quilting adhesive.

Re: Question About My Basting Spray
I have a big purple can of Suave hair spray, it's very cheap. I use it on flying bugs that get in the house, I'll give it try on a sample.
The sample got a little tacky but not a good hold. It might be the type of hairspray that makes a difference. I used cotton batting.

Re: Question About My Basting Spray
Ok, here's where my old hairdresser days may be useful!! lol
The cheapest hairspray you can find (and I believe Aqua Net is right in there) has the most lacquer. The others have conditioners, etc. in them (which you wouldn't want to hold the quilt together!).
I, too, have used hairspray on dried flowers.
If this works it would be a MAJOR cost savings!!!!
Hope someone can check this out soon!! I'd love to see how it works.
