Easy quilt frame

Here it is ladies. I will put the pics on and below each pic I will try & put the specs. The wood you need to use is 1" X 6", which when measured is 3/4" X 5.5". You will need 4-6 foot lengths or 2-6 foot and 1-12 foot. The bases when put together will look like an "X" when you look at them from above.

This amount of wood is ONLY for the "legs". For the "frame" you will need 4-1X2" what ever length of wood you want. The 1X2 is lighter than 2X4's. I added leaders onto 2 of the boards on the one I used. It saved the fingers with tacks when putting the quilt on the frame.
I also used "C" clamps on each corner to hold the 4 "quilt" boards together to keep the quilt tight. I only used this to tie a quilt, not machine quilt it. Some use it to hand quilt. You 'roll' the quilt towards the center and re-clamp as you get closer to the center.
Base A -------

Cut 8-18 inch lengths out of your wood.
"BASE 'A'" YOU WILL NEED 4 OF THESE
On one edge mark the center (9 inches) then mark 3/8" each side of the 'center' mark to the depth of 2.5 inches. (You will be cutting out a piece of wood 3/4 inches by 2.5 inches) I hope you can see the lines on the pattern.
You DO NOT need to have these shaped like this, you can leave them in a rectangle shape if you want. Just make sure you label them "A".
Base "B" ------

Repeat same measurements EXCEPT only cut out an area 3/4 inch by 2.25 inches. Make sure you label these "B"..
If you want them to look like the ones in the photo the measurements are
18" base
1 1/2 inch up from base
top 10" (5 inches each side of center)
'angle' is from the mark at 10 inches on top edge & 1 1/2 inch mark on each side.
All 8 of them are shaped the same the only difference between "A" and "B" is where the notch is cut-----------"A" is on the 18 inch edge and "B" is on the 10 inch edge.
If when you get these together and they 'rock' cut the notch a little deeper in one board. The 'bottom' edge on each should be on the floor when they are together in the "X" shape.
Uprights

You will need 4 of these. You will be cutting out a 'notch' on each end. One end will slip on opposite sides of the X when the base is together, the other will hold the 'frame' with the quilt is on.
Notch on 'top': mark center and then 7/8 inch on each side, depth of 2.25 inches. The total size of 'notch' to cut out is 1 3/4 inches by 2 1/4 inches.
Notch on 'bottom'" mark center and then 5/8 inch on each side, depth of 5 1/2 inches. Total 'notch' to cut out is 1 1/4 by 5 1/2 inches.
When you first put these things together they will be tight. You may have to sand or trim the notches to fit together. They should not be LOOSE--the frame will wiggle to much & it will be hard to work with if it is to loose.
I hope everyone can understand my directions. I try to cover all the questions and sometimes I give to much info. If anyone has a problem let me know & I will try and clarify.
Good luck, Sharon V.
