Fons & Porter Binding Tool

Have any of you tried the Fons & Porter binding tool? I just tried it out and IT WORKS PERFECTLY! Instead of tucking in that extra piece of binding at the end of the quilt, you use this tool which figures out just where to join the two pieces of binding together. It's an acrylic template with numbers that does all of the math. I'm really impressed. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has used this or heard of it. I think it's a relatively new item.

Hi norwich - I just bumped a topic on the binding ruler to the top - seems like a lot of the ladies really like it

Whoops ... I see there's another discussion on the same thing right after mine! Oh well. I was so excited, I guess I didn't stop to read the other posts! Really, quilters, this is the most exciting notion I've come across in a very long time and I've been quilting for over 20 years! I can't tell where my binding stopped or started and it lays so nice too. The directions were very clear. However, I had to take out the stitches twice because I twisted the binding, but now that I know what I did wrong, I doubt I will do that mistake again.

norwich, I got my binding twisted the first time I used it, too! But once you see how it's supposed to go, it is a wonderful gadget to use! I have never been able to join those binding strips before and this tool makes it so nice! I really love mine.

I already put in my 2 cents on the other post but I just have to say it again - I LOVE that tool. You just can't go wrong buying it. I don't get to sew much but I have used it now on 2 quilts and my binding is perfect on both. And one of those quilts has the wavy edge but I used the tool anyway and it worked very well.

I love the binding ruler but Sewing with Nancy had a program on how to do the same thing without the tool. The same allow the two ends to "kiss" cut off one side but you used the piece you cut off to measure the other side. Sew the diagonal seam. I tried it with out the binding ruler and found it worked, but was slower and cumbersome. Carol

I will have to look for that. I still have problems with joining the bindings together. It never turns out right.

Hello I just used mine and got twisted 3 times but I was determined to make it work so I did and won't bind another quilt without it what was lucky was that I still have that show where they use that tool in my DVR .

Fabricgirl - sorry you had trouble. I used it the first time and on a wave-edge border, too, and it came out perfect. I'm kinda dense so I figured if I could do it, anyone can. I love that tool.
