I also have a Rowenta professional which is getting old, but I love it. It just does a great job for me.

I bought the Rowenta Steam Auto Shut off iron. It works great and I've had no problems with it at all. I've had it 7 years now. It uses the Distilled water well and I get good steam/heat from this iron. It is just a little bit heavy for me but not bad. I have enjoyed using it.

Re: I bought a new iron UPDATE
I asked for and received a really nice Rowenta for Christmas several years ago. I loved the iron, but then it only lasted 2 years which for what that iron cost was disappointing. Then I bought a cheap steam iron at WalMart and now after 1 year it is leaking. I need a new one and just haven't gone out and really looked yet. I may try another Rowenta as most people seem to have better luck with theirs than I did. Buying an iron is just not exciting or fun to me, not like most quilting accessories and fabric.

Re: I bought a new iron UPDATE
My first Rowenta lasted many years and many droppings. But finally it gave it's last gasp and I then bought a Sharp at Costco. Within 6 months it started to melt itself! I took it back to Costco and they gave me my money back. I waited for a sale at Joann's and got another Rowenta. Happy again. Then, because I iron downstairs and sew upstairs, I got a little luxurious and on the next sale I bought a second one for my sewing room. Love the Rowentas. Mary Z

Re: I bought a new iron UPDATE
I'm thru with expensive irons. I'm also thru with the very cheap Black & Decker. The last cheap cheap cheap B & D iron I bought is horrible - I have to unplug it to get it to turn on and even while I'm u sing it it shuts off in about 5 minutes and I have to unplug it and plug it back in. What a nuisance!!! So the next iron I get will be a more expensive Black and Decker which will still be less expensive than a Rowenta or a cordless iron.

I cannot seem to find the B&D Lite n Easy. Got a B&D at WalMart for $13.00 but it is not the Lite n Easy. Don't know if it is still the same iron. It is okay but doesn't do a really crisp job on the seams of a block.

Judyquilts - I got my B & D iron at WalMart for $13 - I detest that iron. Every time I want to turn on the iron I have to unplug it and plug it back in. Also, it shuts off after about 5 or 6 minutes even if I'm ironing with it. When it's ON it's irons just great.

Re: I bought a new iron UPDATE
DH thought he'd do me a favor a couple years ago for Christmas. He bought me a B & D self clean II. It worked really great for about 6 months. Now it leaks so bad I can't put water in it, I have tried several different methods for cleaning the plate and it just won't come all the way clean and therefore sticks. No more B & D's for me. I think irons like everything else are just being made more cheaply than they used to.

Just want to put in that I bought a Proctor Silex iron at Wal Mart for just about $10.00 and it has great steam and no auto shut off. I like it and if it starts giving me trouble I can "chuck" it.
