I bought some new Kodak rechargeable batteries made for digital cameras. I'll see how long these last. I was surprised how inexpensvie the charger and batteries were at Walmart. About $18 and it came with AA and AAA batteries.

The Kodac rechargeable batteries work great. I took over 50 pics last night of DGD doing fireworks and it's still going strong.

I agree with Sewsew. She put it very well. I have taken over 300 pictures on the same set of batteries. I use Lithium batteries and have a 6. megapixal camera. Love it!

If your camera uses AA batteries, make sure you get NiMH rechargeable batteries, and a 1-hour fast charger, and get 2 sets (so when 1 set is in the camera, the other set is on the charger) There are different types of rechargeable batteries, the old NiCad batteries didn't last very long, but the NiMH type last much longer now days.

I actually use Energizer rechargeable NiMH batteries that I bought many years ago and I still use them. You can find them at Target I know for sure (the packaging is silver and green). I think the charger runs about $30. It works great and recharges 4 batteries in an hour (Make sure you get a 1-hour charger! Some chargers are 8-hour models).

A four pack runs less than $10 I think and make sure you get at least 2000 mAh. My old ones are 1700 mAh and do a fine job, but I believe the new ones are 2500 mAh or above!

A friend of mine recommends this web site:

You can even find up to 2700 mAh batteries for about $10 for 4 on this web site. However, running over to a Target or similar store is probably easier.

If you camera uses a specialized battery pack, I'd recommend getting a second one, and do the same trick (one in the camera, one on the charger) then just swap when you need to. And if you're on a day trip, you have 2 batteries with you!

Andy, can you only get those in AA? I have a little radio that I use (when I can't sleep at night) and it takes AAA. That would sure save me some $!

gmann, I just put in AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries in my search on yahoo and Yes! they have those available. 12 batteries cost about $12 plus shipping, I didn't see what price the charger was.

Thanks for posting this info on batteries! OMG My camera eats batteries like Sewglad & Quiltsbeme eat M & M's!! And my camera has a "slippery" switch, it can be turned on and I never know it! Kills the batteries in no time. I have recharageable ones, but I don't think they are the right kind, because they barely as 10 pictures! I was so mad, my batteries didn't even make it through my son's wedding!

Will have to check out the NiMH ones next trip to Target!

Regarding using my cell phone for photos-It has a black and white option that I use for determining value. Works well.

I have a different problem. When I first got my camera it took great pictures up close (like for flower blossoms) and from a distance (like you use to take people, quilts etc.) Now though I can only seem to get desent closeups anything with any distance is blurry to some degree sometimes it even make my eye feel funny just looking at them. And you can edit til the cows come home and it doesn't really help. Other than getting a new camera can anything be done? I can't afford a new camera right now (need one yes, but that is another story).
