Thanks everybody--sounds like this would work better than the vintage screw-on gauge that came with the machine. The fabric tended ride up onto the guide and made the seams wider than I wanted.

I, too, couldn't live without my 1/4" foot. BUT, do a test sew and make sure that your seam is actually 1/4". I was using my foot, but my points were still not quite matching, and the blocks were short. I did a test sew and measured and I have to bump my needle (I have a Janome 10001) over 1 click to make it an exact 1/4". Just a heads up. Maybe I have a defective foot (wouldn't surprise me in the least - my whole life is defective! LOL)

I have one that came with my machine and I love it. The guide helps me keep my seams straight and at 1/4 inch.

I bought a bernina and it had a 1/4 foot with it but I ordered the foot with the raised side ($36.00) but it has been worth the money. I had trouble getting a good 1/4 inch before now my seams are much better.

Re: How do you like your 1/4 inch piecing foot?
I have an old Kenmore and recently purchased a pkg of 4 extra attachments for my machine. The 1/4 inch foot was included and it has a metal bar. I thought it looked weird but then I tried it. I love it.
The 4-pk also had a walking foot that helps to pull the fabric thru on the top so it doesn't bunch up, a free motion darning foot, and some kind of metal bar thingy that you can butt fabric up against but I don't like that one. The fabric goes overtop of it and really messes it up if the fabric is lightweight.
I have been doing BOM at a LQS and my blocks were not coming out right until I got this 1/4" foot with the bar. Now they are perfect. No more ripping out half of what I tried to sew together to make the blocks match up. Makes a big diff. You will love it. Worth any price.
I got mine at Sears so don't know if it would work on a Singer but you could go online and check it out at a Sears site.

Re: How do you like your 1/4 inch piecing foot?
I have just bought a Janome Jem 720 to take to classes as it is not too heavy.
It came with a 1'4" foor but I have to move the needle over 2 stops to get the "scant" quarter. Fortunately the needle hole in the foot allowed me to do that.

I purchased one for my old Singer at Hancock's. It works very well. My machine is a slant but they had other types as well.
