I love gadgets and am really pleased to read about this one. I am not very good with cutting...tend to let the ruler slip or something. Thanks for the topic and the opinions. They are great. Jo Ann

I have the real small one and the big one. The big one is great for the large rulers. Keeps them from slipping and keeps your hands out of the way of the rotary cutter also. Since I have been using them, I get nervous when I do not have one and have to cut something. You can purchase the large ones in most stores in the bathroom area. They are used for handles in a shower also and they are less expensive.

Kadie,
There is a suction piece on the bottom. You put the gripper on the ruler and there is a lever to push down to "hook it on tightly". when you want to remove it, you lift up the lever and then lift up the suction piece with a little "knobbie thingie". works like a charm. Like I said, i would like to have another one so i could leave one on the ruler i use most and then change for the occasional usage. this one fits on the 4 1/2 inch fussy cut ruler.
there is a smaller one, but i don't have that one, need to carefully look at it and see it i would use it, this one seems to do everything i need.
works just great to give the left thumb some relief! carol/kittyquilt

Is there a control issue when you use one of these gadgets? I use my long ruler quite a bit and I walk my hand up it to keep it straight on the line. I'm wondering how these grippers would work.

The small grippers will not keep a long ruler from slipping. You need the big Gripper for those. If a big Gripper will fit on the ruler that is the size to use for that ruler.

I don't have the big one, but I seen it used in the quilt shop--works great "all the way". I don't use my long ruler much, so the mid size one does the job very nicely for me.
Here's a tip (which I discovered after my heart stopped (figuratively):
when attaching the gripper, make sure the ruler is on a hard flat surface, like a table. I had been using mine right along and lovin' it. Then one day I went to put it onto a ruler and lo and behold, I could not get the lever down. Oh, my goodness, I know I don't have much strength in my arms, but I'd been doing it with no problem. Set it aside and wondered. Next time I tried it, same thing. Oh my, could not believe it--almost had to come back here and say NO! don't get it!
Next time I tried it, no problem, that little lever just went down so nicely. The difference: When it didn't work, I had my pressing mat on the table and just put the ruler on that and tried to attach the gripper. No workie! This time I had it on the flat table, workie!
My heart started beating again and I was off and cheering!

I have a gripper I use on my 12x6 and really love it. I got mine at the drugstore, but is the same thing in a different color. (I think it cost a little less.)
I will definitety look for the smaller one.

I bought two of the big grippers and I know I need the smaller size for any shorter ruler. I found a wonderful and helpful use for one of the large ones --- I put it on the side of the bathtub and it is a great help getting up. I have arthritis so my "quilting notion" really helps!!! I gave one large one to my daughter and bought her a little one. Still have not tried the medium size.
