UPDATE:

My SIL has a cordless iron so I called her. She's also a quilter. Said hers is an Oreck and that you can use it totally cordless or if you're doing a bigger project, you can also use it with the cord attached.

SO - I went online and priced one and it was around $125-$130.

We went by the Oreck store in Springfield IL on the way to see MIL in the hospital and they had one! So I got to see it and touch it and play with it. I asked how much they would sell me one for and the owner says 'well, they're about $125 online through Oreck but I'll sell you one for $69.95" WHAT!?!?!

We bought it, lol.

I wish I could tell you how it works but DH is a very naughty man. He took my new Christmas iron and HID IT! until I can open it on Christmas. GRRRRRRRR! Did I mention he's a pain in the butt sometimes??? LOL

Guess I'll have to do an additional update after Christmas morning.

my daughter gave me one for chriatmas year before last the only problem i had to begin with is to remember to sit it on base each time you set the iron down if you do that it will always be really hot i would never buy anything but a cordless after i got use to it as i say you got to put it back on the base when you do a seam or a section of fabric it heats fast no problem with mine its a panosonic dont know what she paid for it im sure it was less than 100.00 or maybe less than 75.00 like i said it was a gift it also has the auto. shut off for safety in case you forget to turn it off

The last iron I bought is a gravity feed iron. I love it. Bought if off of ebay and have been very happy. I got tired of my irons not staying hot. I bought an IV pole to hook up the water tank. Eveyone who comes to quilt love it. Geri

Just had to let you know since I saw 2 comments about the Maytag iron, I am a Maytag dealer and I loved my Maytag iron until it started leaking and no it can't be fixed. But, the company was bought out by Whirlpool not Frigidaire as I have seen on this site.

I had a cordless maytag and it only lasted about 18mos and thing stopped working. I also didn't like that it didn't stay hot very long and you had to keep putting it ont he base. I own a Rowenta corded one now and like it much better.
