I just ordered one for myself. It is an early Christmas present from my husband. My sister has one and when I went to her house one weekend to do some quilting, she taught me how to use it. I have wanted one ever since. You can cut alot more fabric in alot less time and it helped me with accuracy. It will cut any size, angle, etc. that you want. And when I looked it up on the internet and saw the price, at first, I thought no way! But my husband just happened to want to buy a new bow. And of course there is all the things you "have to have" to go with it. So off to Cabela's he goes and gets him his early and ONLY Christmas present. That was about 2 weeks ago and it didn't occur to me until last night to ask him if I could buy me an Alto cutter. At first he ask what the heck it was and when I told him he said yes, go ahead and order it. He didn't even ask how much it cost! I nearly fainted. I have slowly built up my quilting supplies and I really thought given the cost of this cutter, there was no way he would let me buy one. But he did and hopefully that little sucker will be on its' way to me first thing tomorrow morning.
Looks like we are both getting our Christmas gifts early. Actually this will only be the 2nd time in the 20 years we have been married that we have given each other Christmas gifts. We always bought for the kids, then came the grandkids, and of course parents. So we thought we were due for a second time.
Anyone who is trying to decide whether to get one or not, go for it. I promise you won't regret it. You'll wonder how you ever did without it.

I am about to chunk mine. I cannot get the hang of it. None of my cuts come out the right size. I'm waiting for my AccuQuilt Die Cut machine. I ordered it for Christmas and it never occured to me to ask DH if I could or not. LOL

I checked out the AccuQuilt Die Cut Machine and it is definitely too pricey for my budget! It does come with the most used set of dies we use in quilts, but if you needed larger blocks you have to buy the dies. I wouldn't like that. Plus, they are pretty pricey as well. But if you can afford it and it works for you, I say Happy Quilting! It does appear to be more user friendly. Many years ago, I worked for a company that made leather products for horses and I die cut out the leather and it does go rather fast, so I could see where you could cut out alot of fabric in a very short period of time. I saw on the website that they were currently taking pre-orders so I hope you get yours in time for Christmas and I hope you enjoy it. Please post and let us know how you like it. There may be others who may prefer it as opposed to the Alto cutter.

I babysitted on weekends for nurses who were working the night shift and made more then enough to buy the AccuCut. Many night workers need a back up babysitter every once in a while. I don't do it full time just when I want extra cash for myself.

Sewbug, did you contact the company with your troubles. I was at a quilt show not too long ago, where some women was complaining about something with the quilt cut and they knew what her problem was and gave her something to fix it. This post is pretty vague I realize, but I thought it was interesting that they would back their product that well, with no questions asked.

I'll contact the company and ask what could be my problem. I haven't noticed anything being being wrong with the cutter, I just thought it was me.

I have had mine since 2002 and I love it..I cant imagine cutting fabric without it. Even when I use a cardboard template at a angle, its a breeze. I have the first one and I think it was around $100 dollars. They have doubled over time. I probably would buy it again if I didnt have one.
I have replaced my mat once in the time I've had the system.

I took my Christmas money and bit the bullet and ordered one. I've always had trouble with my rulers moving. (I've tried all the things to hold them in place and it didn't work.) But I really do love this thing. I just read the directions and everything just fell into place. I love how it holds the extra fabric and no more shifting rulers! And it's a quality piece. It seems everything is getting so high tech any more it's a wonder our grandmothers ever got a quilt made with just plain old scissors! I guess the good Lord knew what generation to put me in:-)) jan
