What NOT to do with a sewing notion!

Post by Stargatefan » Mon Sep 14, 2009 2:39 am

Seeing Rose's post, I thought I would start a new one on this subject - I'm sure we all have our stories so I will start.
I used to use - well, actually just used it once - the little ironing tool from Clover - the one where you use it to iron seams?
Well, I bought this little handy item thinking how cool because I wouldn't need to use the big iron when pressing seams one way or the other. I wouldn't "steam burn" my little fingers. It was going along perfectly. Pressing beautifully.
Then it happened.......
Without thinking, I picked it up by the shaft and NOT the handle. So incredibly stupid and duh. I yelled and ran to the freezer and stuck my hand in ice. I ended up burning the area between my thumb and index finger and had a blister to beat the band. Good Gracious Glory that hurt! Didn't sew for at least a week - couldn't. Fortunately the blisters popped eventually, no infection set in, and I went on with life but have never ever ever EVER used it again. And so it sits. And my hand is still sensitive in that area to this day.
So, am I the only one? LOL! :-)

You are NOT the only one! That little iron is dangerous! But sometimes its pretty handy too.

I learned that lesson too! I used my finger to push down on the head of the iron, not thinking of course. It seemed a normal thing to do. I don't use it anymore. It's not worth the pain of a burn to save power by not using my regular iron.

Thank you all. I have been thinking if I need one of these little irons and have looked at them more than once or twice at JoAnn's. I keep talking myself out of it and now I'm glad I did. As clutzy as I am I could probably end up burning the house down and everything in it! jan

Check this out. It is bigger but several of my friends have bought one. Don't know if it available in the US.
I have the Clover and have also burnt my hand on it. My least favourite gadget.
