Embroidery Thread

Post by Suzquilts » Sun Feb 08, 2009 7:49 am

Friend recently purchased new embroidery machine and wants to find a thread that is heavier, kind of like hand embroidery floss. Anyone know of anywhere that has such a thing?

Thanks bunches, tons, lots!

I have an embroidery machine and i can't imagine using a heavy thread on it. What kind of machine does she have, what does the book recommend she use and what did her dealer say about doing the designs. Some of my designs are so "dense" you could break a needle and the thread trying to do the design if the thread was heavy. I have a Janome machine and use only Janome acrilic thread for embroiderying. Marge

Sulky makes a 12 wt cotton thread to do machine embroidery designs that look like redwork/ bluework. I have a husqvarna se and have used this many times and have no problem. It also comes in a 12wt which is heavier. It depends on your machine. The 30wt is heavier and might be the look she is trying to get. I did a quilt top with sunbonnet sues done in redwork, turned out real cute. Of course I haven't quilted it or anyting yet, another ufo...............
