Binding clips

Post by Suzquilts » Fri Jan 02, 2009 3:41 pm

Saw these in a magazine and just had to try them. I am sold! They hold the binding securely in place as you sew and you don't get stuck by pins anymore!! Think my DH was getting tired of me yelling "OUCH" every few minutes as I was hand sewing my bindings LOL

Thanks for the review. I thought they sounded pretty good. Where did you buy yours?

Found my first batch (I think they come 30 to a pack) at Joann's but then found them at Hobby Lobby for about $1 cheaper. I've bought 5 packs; used about 50 on a 48 x 60 quilt so figured the extra would be good for the larger projects. Used the 50 about 2-3 inches apart on the binding.

I love mine too... I use the 50% off coupon if I go to michaels or the 40% off coupon at JoAnns... you probably can find them cheaper somplace else but we don't have much of a selection of stores around here...

You could also check the dollar stores, the hairclips for little girls will often work.

I only use two at a time. I fold the binding over and secure it in two places about 5 inches apart, and start sewing. As I work my way around the quilt, I keep moving the leading clip to keep it 2-5 inches ahead of my needle. This way I can start stitching as soon as the binding is sewn on the back.

(Around here, Michaels and Joanns will accept each others coupons...)

I like the little girls' hair clips, too. You can find the same thing in quilt shops for twice the price, but why??
On the same vein, I got one of those handles w/ suction grippers that will hold your ruler steady at the "As seen on TV" section of Walgreens.
It is sold as a portable hand grip for the shower. It is exactly like the ones in the quilt shops except for the color and the price. It was about $10 cheaper at the drugstore.

Well, pooh, now you tell me about the little girl hairclips If I didn't keep having mentalpause moments I actually might have looked at one and said "hmmmmmm" LOL

On another note, I have had these flexible round discs that I used to help me pull my needle through when I'm hand piecing and needed some more. I kept looking at Joann's today and didn't see them and then realized they were right in front of me but they'd changed the color and shape! Duh

I just use clothespins (the kind you squeeze to open) on my binding to hold it.
Suz, I LOVE those! I think they're called needle pullers. Can't handquilt without them--must have a little arthritis in my fingers, it's hard for me to grip the needle.
