Oh no!

Post by ilovetosew » Thu Jan 01, 2009 4:58 pm

My Fiskars rotary cutter broke - the button that retracts the blade broke off so the blade has to stay out all the time. This is my second cutter and it lasted 10 years. I kept the package because they have a lifetime guarantee - the first one I had had the same problem and I mailed it to Fiskars and they mailed me a new one. I just can't be without one, so I'm going to buy another one before sending this one in. I have a queen size flannel quilt to make before Valentine's Day when our youngest daughter gets married, and I'm making the Jewel Box pattern. I'll be ok... I just have to get another one! Janie

Janie,
I don't know if you are near a Joann's, but they are having huge sales right now. I think it is through Sunday. I went there on the 31st and got all kinds of fabric and supplies for huge discounts..... all the quilting tools were 40% off.
I have a few rotary cutters. I think you can never have too many.
Good luck!

That is a bummer. I made a Jewel Box quilt in blues/purple and yellow. Gave it to my son-in-law for Christmas. He was sure surprised.

I am begining to think Sue is right about haveing more than one cutter. Every time I need it, it's on the other side of the table or room.

I remember your Jewlbox quilt Cindy, georgeous. I hope Janie will post a photo of hers.

I have about eight or more cutters. Every brand every size. Some I can't find to buy anymore. I have one within arm reach all over my sewing room. I got tired of looking for one when I needed it. I got to try out the new Gingher rotary cutter, it is the best one I have ever used. The handle is weighted. It's the next quilting item I'm going to buy.

Cindy, I think your right about a weighted rotary cutter. I had been cutting for several years before I figured out not to hold down on the ruler so hard but instead concentrate on pressing on the rotary cutter instead. You would think that I would have figured that out sooner. I guess I am a turtle, don't always win the race but I always finish. Something I might want to invest in during a good Jo Ann sale, I also am always looking for my cutter, sometimes I use my small one till it dawns on me where it is. Right now my sewing room is a disaster. But my goal is to finish with the bathroom make over, then clean up the sewing room, practice nightly when I get my new hoop with Jean's quilting method and then start my red and white quilt that I bought fabric for last summer. How much time do you spend on quilting? I still need for there to be 48 hours in a day, I guess that is because I am a turtle.
