I didn't want to pay full price for one so I got mine off of ebay for $8.00 including shipping.....I just had to have one. But to be honest with you I really haven't used it yet. It seems a little confusing to me but that could just be me!! I wish I could help you more.

I bought one & I don't like it because it is too intimidating and not user friendly. IMHO. My DH that loves gadgets thought I wasted the $$ too. But, I know a gal here that loves hers. I think it is one of those deals that 1 person may love it & another person may dislike it. I know that is not the cut & dry answer you were hoping to get. Sorry. lol

I got mine off Ebay as well. And I find it takes alot of steps to figure one thing. As the others said, it's something that you may like and others won't.

I don't have one because I've been told that they are confusing and hard to use. I don't need any more confusion in my head.

Debi, just in general, what are you wanting to calculate? I don't have a calculator because I'm sure I would never be able to figure it out. But, quilterscache website has lots of "calculating" how-to's and victoriana site has a set of I think 5 how-to's. I don't have the exact info here at my puter becasue it's in my sew room which is in another building. I'll be over there today and will get the exact sites if someone hasn't posted them before I get back here.

A very useful one: how to determine how much fabric you need for a quilt if you just have the requirements for one block. That is in quilterscache:

http://www.quilterscache.com/StartQuilt ... ngtwo.html

Well, I tried to put in the link, but it didn't work, but you can just copy and paste.

Hope this helps a bit. carol/kittyquilt

Thanks for all you comments...........it may be another gadget but I had a 50% off coupon and bought it. I haven't even taken it out of the package yet but plan to this weekend. I am going to the cabin this weekend and will get a chance to play. I will let you know how it goes. Happy stitching!! Debi

My hubby, the tecky, loves it, insisted on buying me one. He can have it, lol, I get lost trying to use it, so stuck it in a drawer, & there it sits, lol....& to think, I could have bought more fqs instead of that thing, lol...

Nancy....

(maybe someday I will try to figure it out, but not holding my breath!)

WOW, i'm kind of surprised about most of the comments. I just purchased one about 6 weeks ago -- I LOVE IT!!! I wouldn't want to use it under pressure -- like at the store's cutting table, but figuring out how much I need before I go to the store has been great! I always like to get more fabric than I need, but I don't want the whole bolt, so it has been helpful for me. I hope you like yours Debi, happy trails, jac

It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. I love it. It gave me everything I need to fininsh the quilt and I didn't buy any extra fabric either. Give it a try ladies just sit down for a spell and just read it. It is not confusing everyone is not taking the time to read the directions you just look at it and say its confusing because it has all the extra buttons that you have to push. It gives you the exact yardage that you will need for the fabric give it a try before you knock it. This is only my opinion. Give it a try astitchintime.
