I know a lot of us have the cutting table that have the wings that fold down so the table can be stored. After fighting with the large mat on a regular basis when I needed to store it, DH and I had a bright idea and I thought it would be worth passing along.
This process takes 2 people.
Go to the hardware store and get a can of the adhesive used to attach formica.
Put a thin coating of vaseline all along the table hinges so they don't stick together.
Apply adhesive to mat according to directions on can.
VERY CAREFULLY place mat on table.
After it is dry, use a carpet knife to slit the mat at the hinges.
The table will now store with the permanently attached mat.
I still use another mat on top of this one, but it is good for cutting out clothing and to protect the table if I run off the green mat.

Re: Cutting table
Good idea! I never thought to cut the mat for hinges. I have a sewing cabinet that folds out that this idea would work great when I don't need it folded out. Also I found that the poster putty will hold a mat to a table and not harm the table finish.

Re: Cutting table
What a great idea, Rosie!! My DH made my cutting table from an old ping pong table, but he did make it with the sides that fold down. I'll give him your idea. I could have a bigger mat if we did this!
