I think pearl cotton thread is the next thing to embroidery thread but thicker and is usually the skeins are platted.

I just happened to inquire in my local quilt shop today about what to use for applique, and the gal said to use the pearl cotton. I want try some felted wool applique projects. It looks like a mini version of the way crochet cotton comes.

what does it mean platted? My mom is making lots of penny rugs and I just sent her a bunch of regular embroidery floss to do the applique by hand. I also sent her some what I think is pearl cotton that has thicker strands that are wound around each other. Maybe that is the platting. Jan
