How does your yo-yo garden grow?

Post by calicopuzzle » Sun Jul 15, 2007 4:33 am

I am trying out my yo-yo makers I bought on QIAD recently. The round yo-yo's are really turning out pretty...but I am having a little trouble getting the flower ones to look as good...is anyone else having good results? Any tips?

I read that you shouldn't try the shaped ones until you mastered the round shape. Of course I started with the heart and flower shape first not knowing this. It took several attempts to get the shaped ones to look like they were suppose to. They take a little more fussy fussing to get right.

I have made 2 Yo-Yo quilts over the past several years and I am working on yo-yo quilt number three. I did not know until recently that there was such a thing as a yo-yo maker. My first two quilts had a total of around 4500 yo-yo's in them (that is both together). I have probably a couple of hundred done on my newest one, so I feel like I am a yo-yo pro...until I tried my friends yo-yo maker...It took me forever and it still didn't look right. I have made the flower yo-yo's by stitching through the middle and pulling, they turned out nice, but don't have the nerve to try this one on the yo-yo maker. I'm sure I would have loved this gidget a few years back, now I'm just too used to doing it my way to change...But of course, my friend swears these gidgets are miracles sent from God :o) Have fun with your yo-yo's...By the way, what are you planning on making with them?

Klayne, I was hoping to make a quilt out of them if I ever get enough made....but when you say it takes a couple of thousand yo-yo's to make one....I might just take this to the nursing home with me. I have tried making them without the yo-yo maker, but they seem to have a bigger hold in the middle....maybe I was putting too many stitches around the edge..I don't know. I like the regular round yo-yo maker because they turn out really nice....I am just not that crazy about the flower or the heart...they seem a little bunchy and thick....not that pretty. I guess I will try to continue to improve.
