New piecing method for Pineapple Log Cabin

Post by sewbug » Thu Dec 06, 2007 7:37 am

I was browsing the blogs and found something new to me. I like paper piecing but the thought of doing a Pineapple Log cabin would be so boring to make over and over with paper piecing. This seems like a neat way to make them. The quilt this blogger made is beautiful! I ordered the book and ruler this morning. This will be my next year's Christmas quilt.

That's the Square in a Square thing. There are many books and patterns but it uses a ton of fabric. Amie

Sewbug....That looks like the same pattern that is in QIAD's "Pineapple Quilt, A Piece Of Cake" book. The only difference in them is the center....QIAD's is a four patch and the other one is a plain square. I'm almost finished piecing a pineapple quilt...it is one of my favorite patterns.

I just took a class on paper piecing a pineapple block, I made 4 of them, and I really really dislike taking the paper out of them, but I od love the pattern, guess I will be ordering El's book :)

I've made this block using Donna Poster's Foldy Stuff. The patterns incluce iron on transfers you put on muslin then sew to that so there's no paper to remove and they come out, sort of, three dementional. http://www.sewing.net/foldy.htm

I thought it was fun. Just my 2 cents.

I couldn't see where much fabric was cut off, just the ends of the rectangles to make the triangle edge. I gave away my square in a square ruler, it did use too much fabric.

I looked at the QIAD book, and the block seems to be made different than this method. I'll post the comparison when my order gets here.

Vagrandma, the Square in a Square is a patented technique for a faster way to do the pineapple block. That is what Sewbug is referring to. Amei

I received the Pineapple Quilt, a piece of cake book and DVD yesterday from QIAD. I can hardly wait to view the video and pick out fabric. Jo Ann
