One seam flying geese method
I made a flying geese block this way and it is amazing. It is three dimensional but very nice for a different look. I wrote out the directions the best I could so let me know if you need something "clearified". Try it! I can't find my digital camera anywhere or I would show pics step by step.
One Seam Flying Geese Block
English Method
Cut
1 3 x 5 ½ inch strip – will be the geese
2 3 inch squares – will be the sky
This will make one 4 ½ inch x 2 ½ inch finished flying geese unit.
Fold strip in half wrong sides together.
Put folded strip on top of one (right side up) square matching raw edges of folded strip to the top and left raw edge of square. Fold should be facing bottom with a ¼ inch space from folded edge to bottom of square.
Place second square (wrong side up) on top of the folded strip matching raw edges to first square making a sandwich with the folded strip in the middle.
Sew ¼ inch seam down the right side of all layers. There should be a ¼ inch section at bottom with only the two square fabrics in seam.
Open the sandwich and fold out the strip to form the geese section.

I'll see if I can draw it freehand and post. It is so easy. I am so frustrated in not being able to find my camera. It's only a few months old.

Well, the drawing is out. Let me try it this way: Make a sandwich.
Fold the strip wrong sides together to make a square shape. This will be the filling.
The squares will be the bread.
The bottom bread should be right side up.
Put the filling on the bottom bread, line up the filling raw edges at the top and left side of the bread, having the fold of the filling at the bottom of the bread.
There should be a 1/4 space at bottom with no filling, just bread.
Put the second piece of bread on top of the filling wrong side up.
There you have a sandwich.
Sew 1/4 seam down the right side of the sandwich.
The filling does not go all the way to the bottom of the bread so don't worry about it, but sew all the way down the right side of the sandwich.
Open and fold out the strip to form the geese.

Re: One seam flying geese method
Amazon has preview of this book and one preview is the flying geese method. It is not like the method I posted though. She folds the squares and uses a glue stick, it looks like her sky is dimensional. The method I posted the geese is dimensional and has one seam to sew.
