Freezer paper

Post by CaroleJ » Fri Sep 14, 2007 11:33 am

I saw a roll of Reynold's freezer paper in the grocery store today. The label says it is "plastic coated". (It's not Press n Seal; I checked.) There was also a roll of baking parchment paper...so now I'm confused!

Do I use the "plastic coated" freezer paper for paper foundation piecing? I didn't want to spend a whopping $6.00 until I checked with y'all! Would the NON-plastic coated parchment be better?!

Heeelllllp...

Carole,
You need to use the plastic coated freezer paper so when you iron
it on it will adhere to the fabric. It peels off easy. Parchment
paper won't work. Good luck

Simply quilts had a segment this morning on paper piecing with freezer paper. She made it look do-able.

The parchment paper is for baking cookies. I use it all the time and the cookie bottoms don't get darker than the tops. Great item.

Press N Seal is kind of like saran wrap except it is textured and sticks to itself and seals. Some of the long arm quilters (not long armed) are useing it to draw their motifs on and then stick it to the fabric and can be stitched over.

It is the bottom right picture:

I don't think you can use freezer paper for paper-piecing....at least for the method that we have been discussing where you sew THROUGH THE PAPER AND THEN TEAR IT OFF....you would never be able to remove the freezer paper after sewing through it....you would break your stitches because freezer paper is TOO THICK!! You need to use a thin enough paper to either see through slightly and tear off easily without breaking your stitches.
Evidently whoever suggested the freezer paper was talking about some other method than actually sewing THROUGH the paper...

I use freezer paper for applique because you iron it on the fabric with a DRY iron. works great. I use Carol doaks Foundation paper for foundation paper pcing that you sew right on the paper. YOu can copy you pattern on this paper from you computor printer. Marge

The freezer paper method of paper piecing is not to sew through the paper but fold it back on the sewing line. Freezer paper will print through an ink jet printer but not a laser printer. It's great for making templates for applique and for for printing on fabric through your printer.
Parchement paper makes good tracing paper and you can sew through it but I use it for baking.
