I'm paper piecing a Rail Fence block
This is great. It's fast and my block is as accurate as if it was die cut. I think paper piecing the simple classic blocks is the way to sew! I've found about all the classic blocks in paper piecing patterns online even the plain square nine patch.

I made four of the blocks and put those together and I have a perfect square 12 1/2 " block, with perfect straight seam lines. No trimming, no fudging to make seams line up, a perfect block. A real first for me!

Wow Sewbug....I am really interested in this paper piecing. I have read a lot about it. What kind of paper did you use and did you run it through your printer? Congrats on the perfect square!!!!

Oops! Nevermind...I see you answered that question! I did stop by Staples today to get some of that Hands On paper and my Staples was out but expected to get more in. I am really anxious to try it.

Just be sure it's the scribble pad paper not the drawing pad paper. The drawing pad paper is thicker. I found that I can dampen it and the paper will almost dissovle itself away from the seams.

I always use the cheapest filler paper I can find - the thinner the better. I just did this block with the paper and had no problems getting it off. I often make mistakes in paper piecing and hate to have to reprint on something that's very expensive.

Quilt 1932 Beautiful block. I went to my staples and they were out of the paper. Must be back to school shopping. I'm going to attempt pp with regular typing paper.

May, regular typing paper will probably be too heavy. I just use the 3-hole-punch lined paper the kids get for school. Note that you should set your printer for 8x10 when using the filler paper. Thanks for your nice comment on the block. It was fun to do.

Sewbug...you've got me really wanting to try my hand at paper piecing now. I've got the paper on my shopping list and I think I'll give it a try.

I'm paper piecing some blocks today, and all can say is that those of you who love paper piecing must have the patience of angels...
It takes soooo much time, to cut and sew all the individual pieces, and I'm so impressed with those of you who make paper pieced blocks for a whole quilt!
For me, who have a very short attention span and get bored very quickly, after this project, chain piecing will be the only method I'll use for a long time, LOL!

I tried paper piecing and spent more time unpicking(which isn't good for the paper) than I did sewing! Not for me I'm afraid...haven't got the patience or the ability.
