Apple Core Quilt

Has anyone here made an apple core quilt? I am always looking for ways to use scraps for my charity quilts and thought this pattern would be nice. I have never made one...I see Brandy, and a few other quilters have templates to sell. Is it easier to make by hand, or machine? Any advice would be appreciated...

Did you know that we carry QuiltSmart's Apple Core fusible? Here is a link to it on our web site. It employs Eleanor's applique technique.

I just finished an Apple Core done the traditional way - no 2 fabrics alike - 900 for a queen size!! A friend bought me the template and then my sweet sister bought me a Curve Master Presser foot which made it so much easier - no pinning, or clipping or fusing. It actually was a lot of fun seeing how the different fabrics looked together. I put the cutout pieces in a basket, pulled them out one at a time and sewed like crazy.

I had a blast!!

A couple of years ago I made an apple core quilt for my husband. I call it 1/2 charm as there were only 225 - 250 different fabrics in it and there were 400 pieces.

I used the Wonderarc pattern, where circles are overlapped to form the applecore shape. It's a bit heavy (and hot) as the back is flannel. My husband loves it.

At this time I'm not planning on doing another apple core quilt, but I wonder if traditional piecing with the curve master foot might not be the way to go.

OHHHHHH MYYYYY What a beautiful quilt! But Oh how much work that must have been! I love it. You really did a great job. Did you keep track of the hrs this took? Looks very time consuming but so worth it.
