Has anyone made a quilt using the Scappy Nine Patch block? I saw it as a previous free block and liked the look of it.

Saden....to me anything looks good in scrappy. I try to be brave and use whatever piece I pull out of the bag, but sometimes I just can't do it. Sometimes at guild they would play a game where the rule was that you HAD to use the piece you took out. It's amazing what goes together in a scrappy quilt.
This is my Millennium quilt. Traded squares with people from all over the world. Just goes to show you they all go together. I didn't do anything fancy. I wanted to keep everyone's squares in their own block with their signature square. That was so much fun.
So anyway...anything goes with scrappy.
By the way...I know it's not a 9-patch, but you know what I mean.

grammy65....this is one of the nicest scrappy quilts I have seen. It just looks so nice and crisp. I think the white you used to boarder the blocks, really set it off. Nice going!

grammy65 that is very beautiful. I started some of those blocks a few years ago. When I get enough I'll put them all together.

I actually received enough squares to make 2 quilts, but I was pushing it getting this one done in 2006. I only started in 2000. LOL It sure was fun corresponding with women from all over the world. I'm so sad though. I had been in touch with one lady in Slidell, LA and I tried to e-mail her after the hurricaine and it bounced back. She was so great. She even went to the fabric store and bought more of the fabric I liked in one of her squares and mailed it to me before I even sent her the money. Also sent me a bunch of that jewelry they have during Mardi Gras time for my grandkids. Sure wish I knew what happened to her.

I too agree the scrappier the better. I love your quilt. Would you be so kind to tell us what size the little squares are and what each square measured. Did you had quilt this? Was it machine quilted? Was it done stitch in the ditch??
I must be nuts but I cannot let small pieces of fabrice be tossed out. I help make quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief but we primarily cut 6 inch, 11 inch or 22 inch squares to make 80 X 60 tops. I thought with the extra little pieces I could use of the smaller pieces of fabrice and make lap robes for the nursing home --they usually are about 48 X 48 inches I do believe.
So if you would not mind sharing your dimensions I would appreciate it greatly .
I really liked how you set off each square with the white and dark square in each corner.
PS the quilts made for Lutheran World Relief are tied. We do not have enough help to hand quilt the quilts but I know someone out there does and God Bless you.
I am still very green with this quilting. I think now to be honest I have lots of scraps and find this quilt so appealing because I still make too many goofs at rotary quilting. I really hope I can get over the fear of rotary quilting accurately because sadly long ago I always found sewing patterned projects difficult because of the laying out of fabric and getting the tissue pattern correct. OMG I hope my sub concious (sp) is not sabotaging my quilting desire.
I think I need to just quit my 40 hour a week paying jon, delegate more chores and then I will have more time for practicing.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilt. You are great quilter and great to listen to me.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Tina

Hi Patches4...thanks for your comments. I can't tell you how much fun that swap was. Spent hours on the computer just getting in touch with people in different states and countries.
The squares (charms) we swapped were 2-1/2" (2" finished). There are 25 squares in each one of the blocks which included the signature square of the person that sent them. I never cut so many squares in my life. The finished size of the block is 10".
I made this before I got my longarm so I had someone quilt it on their longarm. It could very easily be tied too.
The squares and blocks could be made in any size. I would suggest that you square up each block before sewing them together. I was amazed at how many blocks I was not able to use because they were too small once they were sewn together into the block.
I was blown away by some of the Millennium quilts. Some people separated all their charms into light, medium and dark and did some awesome designs. I really just wanted to keep everyone's charms together with their signature square. It was amazing how few repeats I had of charms.
Someone in the swaps section wants to start a charm swap you might be interested in.
