stuffing applique
does any one stuff their applique pieces before attaching to the quilt top

I have seen it done on TV, but I have never tried it.

Doesn't El stuff hers? She uses cotton batting and hemostats to poke it thru the hole in the back and arrange it to lay flat.

I have placed a piece of batting under an applique before I stitched it, then trimmed the excess away from the stitches. When the quilt is sandwiched with it's regular batting, the extra batting under the applique piece makes it appear puffier without having to stuff it like trapunto. Then any top stitching around the applique when quilting adds to the demension. I hope this is clear.

naniyoise it gives a 3D effect on the quilts. Looks terrific!
