Stitching in the ditch does mean right on the seam line (the ditch). Just outside of the seam line is shadow quilting, or maybe echo quilting is what it's called.

I thought sewing in the ditch meant right in the seam. I will get my twins out and give it a try.

Busyhands125, meybe all of us should stay at a Holiday Inn Express and meybe we would get more smarts. lol

The twin needle is spaced so close it's the easiest way to get perfectly straight lines for me. In the quilting classes I've taken, sewing in the ditch was always right outside the seam line as close as you could get without sewing right in the seam. I've never heard of stitching directly in the seam stitches. Is this a common thing?

Sewbug, when I made my first quilt I stitched in the ditch and the instructions said right on the seam line. Maybe things have changed since then. I'll watch for this topic while I'm doing all my reading over the weekend.

I do not think anyone is offended, we just all got our answer. However, I know how you feel when you post something and it seems to stop dead right there.

I hope nobody takes offense at anything I say. Sometimes words look different on paper than what we meant. If I ever offend anyone, please let me know.
