Need suggestions/help on what to do.

Post by Rose92 » Sat May 23, 2015 7:31 am

I am making a quilt, using a jelly roll, 2 1/2 strips. Started by sewing the strips together into a panel, cutting each panel into a squares, sewing two squares together on all 4 sides, with one square rotated, then cutting the squares on the two diagonals. This gave me lots of squares with stripes at different angles that will make interesting patterns when matched back up. Everything went fine until I went to square up each new square to 9 1/2 inches. I found one square only measures 9 inches. I have no more fabric to make a new square and I can't cut down the other squares to 9 inches or the stripes won't match up to make the new patterns. What can I do? Suggestions welcome!

Can you get another jelly roll? Maybe there are some fat quarters or yardage of the same fabrics that you could purchase? Hope you are able to find what you need to finish the needed blocks.

This happened to me, so I know how you feel. I also learned when sewing jelly rolls that when I started the 2 strips and sewed to the end, when adding the 3 rd strip, I attached to bottom where I left off. Alternating. Good luck.

Well, you can change your mind about caring if the strips all line up . . . Some don't by design, you know.

When in a similar situation, I bought a little piece of a fabric that matched closely to what I was doing.

Good Luck.

Can you change say.. just the corner blocks to another plan..?
Technically, you'll eliminate 3 more blocks and the bumned one..

Here s another complicated idea.. reproduce that piece of fabric by taking it to a print shop and photocopy type idea have it spit out the printer on a fabric sheet sold in craft stores.

cut them all down to the smallest size and add borders around each to make them the desired unfinished size.
