Quilt Assembly Question

I am ready to assemble my first ever queen size quilt from the 25th Anniversary book (Cornerstone quilt) and I have a question regarding sewing the vertical rows together:

After all the vertical rows are sewn together, do I PRESS the seams before sewing the horizontal rows? If so, which direction to I press them? Or, do I wait until both vertical & horizontal rows are sewn then press them? I confused and I want to do this right. It's an first wedding anniversary quilt for my son and daughter-in-law.

Thanks, Kathy Monington

It will be easier to sew them together if one row is pressed in one direction and the row next to it is pressed in the oppisite direction. That way you can "butt" the seams snugly up to each other and they will match up for a smooth seamline on the front. Joan

My suggest do the French seam= Sew wrong sides tog. trim open seam, then sew again with right sides tog. encasing the seam, then sew a straight stitch to flatten the seam and create strength. Makes for a well sealed seam, with no risk of fraying, and won't get caught in your toes while sleeping...

I've used this seam often with clothes..

Disregard my thread, in this case French seam isn't an option, good for clothing but not quilting.. Don't know what I understood 1st reading..
