Quilt in a Day Forums

I am currently working on a quilt pattern featured in the Quiltmaker Magazine from a few months ago. It is a baby quilt that suggests pre quilting using decorative stiches on your machine. Well, just having purchasaed a Brother Laura Ashly model equal to the Babylock Model, I decided to try this. Has anyone else done this type of quilting? It is recomended that you place batting under the block you are doing and use those decorative stitches that come on your machine. So far the results are really unique and it is going to be a neat quilt.
A funny thing came up when working on partof this quilt. the quiltmaker had in the directions to cut 56 1 and a half inch squares to make a border around one of the blocks. Well, WE don't cut like that. I sewed a series of colored strips of the same width and the cut it into 1 1/2 strps. Sew 56 small pieces one by one???? We QUIAD followers know better. Right?
Like to know if any one else had done this type of quilt.

Just looked at the Brother Laura Ashley machine--WOW!

I'm interested to see how your quilt turns out. I saw a table runner at the LQS that was made with oriental fabrics and quilted in the ditch with a stitch that looked like a string of balls, and in black thread. Very striking!

Maybe you could post a few pictures of the process as you go. I've been on the forum for a few years and only remember deco stitches used for stitching down the binding, so you may be breaking a new trail for us here.

And yes, sometimes I wonder about the quilt designers who haven't gotten the word that there's an easier way to do some things!

I have been making some little snappy bags and I quilt them this way. I have also made some bigger purses doing it, and some changing pads for babies. I just use masking tape ever so many inches to be consistent, and then stitch along the side of it using whatever decorative stitch I chose.
