I am what you would call a traditional quilter. My favorite types of material to work with are reproduction fabric from the 1800's. Recently I found a really interesting pattern using English paper piecing. The directions seem quite easy, but I wondered if anyone had any tips or experiences to share with this type of pattern.

I do English paper piecing all the time and I love it. I keep a basket full of it beside my chair and I work on it while I am watching T.V. It is very relaxing to me and I have made several quilts from it. I hope you enjoy it is as much as I do.

I'm learning English Paper piecing and I have found several sites that have helped show me some of the easier methods. You can find videos on you tube that will halp a lot. Good Luck, Pam

I love English Paper Piecing. My latest is a hexagon pattern. I use 2 pieces of material and 1 of batting. Make a sandwich just as you would a quilt. Sew together leaving 1 side open for turning. Turn, whip closed and sew a 1/4" around and then it is finished and ready to put together.

Hi there, I believe you need to have the Feed Dogs up on your machine to help hold and feed the fabric and paper along as you sew just as you would do for regular piecing. When you drop the feed dogs the machine can't feed the fabric and you have to feed it manually making uneven stitching. And the suggestion for shortening your sitches to 1.5 should be a great help to you. Happy piecing!
